Great value holidays for big groups

Hot off the press

Snap up a bargain - this huge fabulous Devon house has a whopping 40% discount until July…

Ready for a leisurely catch up with friends in beautiful surroundings? Long overdue for a family reunion? Or do you just love holidays with masses of space to spread out, run wild, have fun and do whatever you like?
Alston Hall is the perfect place – and there’s an unmissable opportunity to book the whole house at nearly half the usual price.

All available dates in April, May and June have been reduced by 40%, so take advantage of the beautiful spring sunshine and head to the West Country.
Alston Hall is a unique holiday property. Rambling over three storeys, you have wonderful privacy and exclusive use of the whole detached house and gardens.

“We had a really lovely family holiday,” said a guest, “Great house for hide and seek for the young, swimming and games for the teens and nice relaxing areas for the oldies!”
Seventeen bedrooms, all en suite, sleep up to 38 people. Three reception rooms and a huge dining room complete the country house experience. From the moment you step into the grand oak-panelled hall with its sweeping staircase, stained glass windows, real fire and piano, you’ll feel relaxed and at home. There’s even your very own butler and maid, if you fancy it, for some upstairs/downstairs indulgence.

Alston Hall was completed in 1906 and was always intended to be larger than life. The wife of the vicar of Holbeton set out to build a bigger house than the vicar of Modbury, and local rumour says her husband eventually had her sectioned when her obsession threatened to consume the family’s wealth.
Happily though, Alston Hall has been a jolly family home for much of the past century, the first in the area to enjoy mod cons like electricity and a telephone, and with country house trappings like a snooker room and outdoor swimming pool (available from 28th May). A stint as a boutique hotel produced even more entertaining amenities, such as the indoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

It’s easy to spend a week at Aston Hall without venturing beyond the three acre grounds, but don’t miss the opportunity to explore the unspoiled South Devon coast and countryside beyond. Nearby Mothecombe Beach is golden and perfect and made a picturesque backdrop for the filming of Sense and Sensibility, when Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson stayed at Alston Hall. (Note to dreamy pony-mad girls of the ‘80s: International Velvet was filmed here too, and sometimes you’ll still spot horses galloping through the shallows.)

Now the latest generation of children have flown the nest, Alston Hall is available for everyone to enjoy and has fast gained a reputation for hosting fabulous birthday and anniversary celebrations and family gatherings. Snap up a bargain, come and have fun!
Prices from £1,910.02 (£51 per person) for a short break and £2,675 (£71 per person) for a week. Pets welcome. Catering available.
