South West Coast Path October Challenge

What's on

Put your best foot forward to help the Coast Path and enjoy a fabulous walk...

Put your best foot forward for the wonderful 630-mile South West Coast Path which traverses the splendid coastline from Minehead in Somerset, around Devon and Cornwall to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The South West Coast Path Association and the National Trust are raising funds for repairs to the Coast Path, which is enjoyed by millions of visitors every year.

Patron of the 2016 October Challenge event, TV adventurer Monty Halls, loves the Coast Path and says, “This is one of the most magical trails in Europe and a great way to get into nature. The October Challenge is one of the ways that we can do that and raise money. I’d encourage everyone to create their own challenge, to get out there and enjoy the Path and raise a bit of money while you do it."
Don't worry if you're not a seasoned hiker - there are walks for all levels of fitness, from seafront strolls and gentle evening rambles to clifftop climbs, so rope in a friend, book a West Country cottage where you can soak in a lovely hot bath and put your feet up by the fire at the end of the day and sign up for an event or pick a running or walking challenge.
Follow the footsteps of miners on the Cornwall’s Tin Mining Heritage Coast Walk on Friday 7th October. This two mile sunset walk from St Agnes Head to Chapel Porth will be led by local historian Roger Radcliffe, looking at the folklore, coastal history and wildlife of this beautiful stretch of coastline, and will also take in the iconic Towanroath Shaft engine house.

Enjoy the spectacular scenery around St Mawes with well-known hoteliers Alex and Olga Polizzi, on Monday 10th October. The 10 mile walk starts with a ferry trip from the fishing village of St Mawes to picturesque Place, followed by a tour of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula. Alex says, "I am so looking forward to a day walking the wonderful paths of the Roseland Peninsula in good company and for a good cause."
On 13th October visit the home of Poldark on the far west coast of Cornwall and walk the Coast Path from Botallack through Kenidjac and back along inland paths, passing a site where the BBC TV series was filmed. A hot Cornish pasty will be waiting for you at the end.

It costs £10 to register online for the Challenge and you receive a sponsorship form and Challenge 2016 t-shirt through the post.
Simply pick your own stretch of Coast Path to complete, or sign up for one of these organised walks or runs:
