South Devon makes waves in the BBC crime drama…<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

We\u2019ve been gripped by The Coroner! The hit daytime BBC 1 crime drama returned to our screens for Series 2 and the fabulous South Devon scenery has been one of the stars. We\u2019ve loved the drama, but couldn\u2019t help being distracted by \u2018spotting\u2019 some of our favourite West Country destinations.<\/p>\n

The plot follows Jane Kennedy, coroner in the fictional Devon town of Lighthaven, who investigates local deaths with Detective Sergeant Davey Higgins, her childhood sweetheart.<\/p>\n

Producers say the series\u2019 slogan was \u2018Summer holidays all day long every day\u2019 and the glorious coastal locations in brilliant sunshine certainly don\u2019t disappoint.<\/p>\n

Here are a few locations you may recognise:<\/p>\n

Dartmouth<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The main town, \u2018Lighthaven\u2019. \u201cWe wanted to feature Dartmouth as a major location as it\u2019s so beautiful and the view across to Kingswear is breathtaking,\u201d said the production team. \u201cThe way the light twinkles across the River Dart always makes it feel like summertime, even in February.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stay at 21 Dart Marina<\/a> in the heart of the picturesque Elizabethan town.<\/p>\n

Blackpool Sands<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The beautiful curved beach was the unlikely backdrop for a shocking harpoon murder!<\/p>\n

Stay at nearby\u00a0Landcombe Cottage<\/a>, Strete.<\/p>\n

Salcombe<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The original choice for Lighthaven, but the busy little streets were impractical for filming. There are spectacular estuary shots from nearby Bolt Head airfield though.<\/p>\n

Dartington<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The Dartington Estate, with its wonderful walking and interesting shops, was home of the production office and featured in some scenes.<\/p>\n

Stay at\u00a0The Old Stables<\/a>\u00a0in countryside nearby.<\/p>\n

Dartmoor<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Bonehill Rocks, Bellever Forest and Hound Tor make a striking contrast in a couple of episodes to the coastal scenes.<\/p>\n

Stay at\u00a0Hay Tor Cottage<\/a>\u00a0on open moorland near Widecombe-in-the-Moor.<\/p>\n

Lukesland House and Gardens<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n

A beautiful 24 acre woodland valley garden near Ivybridge, stunning and serene.<\/p>\n

Stay at\u00a0The Clock House<\/a>, hidden within the grounds of Lukesland House.<\/p>\n

Brixham<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Scenes were shot on the cliffs at Berry Head near Brixham and at the caf\u00e9 there.<\/p>\n

Stay at Bayview<\/a>, an ocean-facing apartment looking out onto the crystal clear waters.<\/p>\n

Hallsands<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Once a thriving fishing community which was famously swept away on a stormy night almost a hundred years ago. Now it\u2019s a tranquil gem of a cove.<\/p>\n

Stay at 13 Burgh Island Causeway<\/a>\u00a0with panoramic views of The Coroner coastline.<\/p>\n
