The property

A mile from Rosudgeon is spectacular Acton Castle, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty commanding the peninsula between Stackhouse Cove (200 yard walk, low-tide sand) and Prussia Cove.

Romantic 18th cent.

seaweed expert John Stackhouse spotted the site from St Michael’s Mount for his wedding present to his betrothed, Susanna Acton.

Built of granite, Grade II listed, the castle has formal shared gardens and lawns, slate terraces, sunken garden with pond (unfenced) and sensational sea views (beautiful sunsets), including of St Michael’s Mount.

Farmland surrounds it and rough private drive leads to it.

The Coast Path passes by.

This is a glorious location for walking or peace and fabulous views.

The castle is divided into apartments; we let three Susanna's Apartment (arrow 3), on the first floor, is named after the wife of Acton Castle's eccentric creator.

It is approached by external slate steps at the back.

Slate-floored hall to large, light, airy living/dining/kitchen with TV/DVD, mullioned windows, window seat and cushions to enjoy the stunning views along the coast to St Michael's Mount.

Well-equipped kitchen area (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer, larder fridge, electric cooker).

Two steps down to two bedrooms - a double, and a twin (2'6" beds).

Pretty bathroom (suite plus hand-shower) and loo. Rosudgeon: hamlet (pub, shop) a mile from the sea (beaches), 6 miles from Penzance and 3 from St Michael’s Mount.

Sandy beaches at Perran Sands, Marazion and Praa Sands, 2½ miles.

Spectacular cliff walks via Prussia Cove (once a smugglers’ favourite), 1½ miles.

North coast surfing beaches and St Ives, 8.

Golf nearby.
