“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Higher Tumrose.”

The location was central to explore Bodmin Moor and the coast . There are plenty of walks from the cottage. The cottage is very well furnished, has a beautiful sun room giving lovely views and is very quiet. The kitchen has more than enough utensils to cook for 7 people and more than adqueate dinner service. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and a tumble dryer, however we used the airing cupboard to dry our clothes. A small clothes rack would not have gone amiss. The bunglow is very ...

The bunglow is very spacious allowing everyone to have space and beautifully furnished. Comfortable beds were noted and warm bedding for everyone. The hosts were very generous with their time, help and advice on what to see in the area. The free logs for the fire were well appreciated. Thank you for your generosity, Shah Family London

The property

¼ mile from Blisland, in a lovely situation, a charming, sunny, single-storey cottage and, 50 yards from it, a handsome single-storey house.

They are up 300 yards of private tree-lined, primrose-banked lane, separated by the lawn-garden of the owners’ beautiful 16th cent.

farmhouse of a 65 acre mixed farm (sheep, cows/calves).

You are welcome on the farm.

Behind rises a tor (fine views).

Foxes, badgers and buzzards about.

A grand place for walkers, birdwatchers and peace-seekers - very close to the open moor (nearby gate to it) but in soft, wooded countryside.

Higher Tumrose, the single-storey house, is detached, well designed and full of character: big rooms, comfortable furniture and superb long views.

Shallow steps down to terrace/patio (table/chairs) and good-sized lawn divided from fields by ha-ha; all very secluded.

Inside: hall.

Elegant living room with woodburner (logs included), TV/DVD, French windows to balcony (lovely views), and glazed double doors to big, comfortable, parquet-floored sunroom with tremendous views.

Depth-of-house, well-equipped kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker); dining table overlooking the terrace and garden.

Four bedrooms - a large, light double (5' wide x 6'7" long bed, TV) with wonderful view from bed via big bay window (window seat) and en suite bathroom (suite with separate shower); two twin (one with beds zip-linked to 6' double); and a single (2'6" bed); bathroom (suite with separate shower). Blisland: attractive village (old cottages, good pub, PO/shop/internet café, medieval church) around a green in wooded farmland below the western edge of Bodmin Moor.

Nearby, the River Camel (trout/salmon fishing and Camel Trail cycleway).

The sea at Port Isaac, 9 miles, or Polzeath (sand/surf beach) and Rock (watersports), 12.

About the location

BLISLAND

Bodmin 5.7 miles; Wadebridge 8.4 miles; Polzeath 13.2 miles; Tintagel 13.8 miles; Padstow 16 miles; Fowey 17.2 miles.

Situated under the western edge of granite-bound Bodmin Moor, the village of Blisland retains its age old character and is the only village in Cornwall to have a village green with trees. Around the green, cluster old houses and cottages, as well as the famous, award-winning Blisland Inn. The village is located less than three miles from the A30, and so provides an ideal central location for touring Cornwall. Nearby, Poley’s Bridge marks the beginning of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long route, which follows a long disused old steam engine railway line to Padstow. The route is completely traffic-free and perfect for walkers and cyclists. You can even explore the trail on horseback and a purpose-built hide has been constructed between Wadebridge and Padstow, so even birdwatchers are catered for! Pull on your walking boots and explore Bodmin Moor, or venture to the coast with your buckets and spades and enjoy a day on one of the many beautiful beaches that stretch along Cornwall’s northern coastline. A fabulous part of the country for all!
