The property

In Golant, on the edge of the harbour and surrounded on three sides by water at high tide, a fabulous cottage, aptly named Island House.

The location is superb, with water views from every window and from the first floor the river’s moorings can be seen beyond the Victorian railway embankment along which an occasional freight train trundles with china clay bound for Fowey.

Enclosed, mainly cobbled pretty garden around two sides of the house with sun terrace (table/chairs, barbecue) for alfresco dining at any time of day.

Dinghy mooring available nearby (16' open boat can be hired and delivered from Fowey).

Step from front door into bright spacious kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with views.

Step down to large beamed living room with limestone-flagged floor (rugs), woodburner, TV/DVD/Blu-ray/PVR.

Charming study with desk.

Washer-drier in cupboard.

Twisting stairs (stairgate) from the living room up to two bedrooms (TVs) - a pretty double (5' bed), and a twin; bathroom (suite, shower over bath).

From the kitchen, second flight of stairs (stairgate) up to a smart double bedroom (5' bed) with TV, French windows to balcony and the best views across the estuary, plus en suite shower-room (suite).

An exceptional waterside property in a beautiful part of Cornwall. Golant: small waterside village (good pub, fine church, boat/kayak hire) on the western bank of the beautiful River Fowey.

Fowey and Polkerris (pretty fishing hamlet with small harbour, beach), both 4 miles.

Fine cliff walks to Gribbin Head.

Nearby is Daphne du Maurier's former home, Menabilly, which inspired Manderley in ‘Rebecca’.
