    “Very clean place but dated.”

There was issues with this place firstly the shower, if you are above 5.10 in height don't bother with a shower I'm 6.3 and the top of the shower head came to my chin, trying to hold it above my head was impossible because it fell apart and if you dropped the soap you could not bend down to pick it up cubicle to small the fan does not work so it was a strip wash every time. The oven was useless. The 10 minute walk to portisaac was a joke it took around 3/4 off an hour because it was not kept in ...

The oven was useless. The 10 minute walk to portisaac was a joke it took around 3/4 off an hour because it was not kept in a good walking condition it was well overgrown and bogged plus a tree was down blocking the route so on our return we took the road back . We left a day sooner and sorry to say we will not be booking again.

The property

At the end of a long private drive with only two neighbouring properties sits this peaceful Grade II listed former watermill, less than 1/2 mile by footpath (walking boots may be required) from the picturesque harbour of Port Isaac.

Mill Barn is a charming holiday base for families and friends who want to explore this popular fishing village, which found fame as the backdrop to the ITV television series Doc Martin.

The barn has been laid out reverse level to make the very most of the countryside views.

Enter on the first floor to spacious open-plan living room with a vaulted and beamed ceiling, Juliet balcony and a sociable dining area.

There's a neat kitchen which houses everything you'll need to cater for the family.

On the ground floor are two cool, comfortable bedrooms; a double with a kingsize bed and a twin with zip-link beds.

They share a Jack and Jill style cloakroom, whilst the main shower room can be found on the first floor.

Outside, across the old farmyard, there's an enclosed garden bordered by a pretty stream; a peaceful setting with a table and chairs where you can enjoy breakfast or dinner when the sun shines.

There is also a table tennis table in the garage for guests to use.

You'll want to explore Port Isaac, but with some of the narrowest thoroughfares in the UK you might want to leave the car behind!

Instead, take a leisurely 10 minute stroll along the rustic footpath to the village centre, where you will find a choice of shops and eateries.

Explore the maze of narrow streets before stopping off at the picturesque harbour, where fishing and scenic trips can be taken during the summer months.

Keen walkers can use Port Isaac as a base in which to walk the famous South West Coast Path to enjoy the dramatic coastal landscape and to admire the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Heritage Coastline.

Neighbouring Port Gaverne offers a small sandy beach, as well as opportunities for sea-kayaking and coasteering days out.

Slightly further away is Polzeath, the area's best surfing beach and Daymer Bay, dog friendly all year round.

Fascinating Tintagel Castle, Pencarrow House and Garden in Bodmin, as well as the Pentargon Waterfall in Boscastle are all within easy reach.

With so much to do and see you're assured of a wonderful time at Mill Barn.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

PORT ISAAC

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.
