At Whitsand Bay, around 30' above the beach on the edge of Tregonhawke Cliff, a detached single-storey cliff-side chalet with stunning, uninterrupted panoramic sea views. Cliff End is aptly named; between the roadside parking and the chalet are 350 yards of very steep, rough footpath (big steps) down/up gorse and flower-strewn cliffs. A large enclosed deck (table/chairs) along the front is an idyllic spot for surf, sea and ship-watching; small level lawned area (barbecue) at the side. Below the chalet, footpath (very steep/narrow parts/steps) down to the sandy beach. Inside, fresh modern seaside decor with simple, stylish, red, white and blue theme. Two sets of ceiling-high glass doors from deck to light-filled open-plan living/dining/kitchen (microwave, fridge, electric cooker) with polished oak floors, TV/DVD, iPod dock, comfy sofa (converts to double bed for alternative sleeping). Two bedrooms - a double (180 degree views, doors to deck), and a smart twin with side sea views. Shower-room (suite). Stout shoes/torch essential. Not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. No children under 7, except pre-crawling babies, due to steep location. Outstanding location/views make it worth the steep climb.
Whitsand Bay: 5 miles of sand and rocks, uncrowded because no roads to the shore, between Rame Head and Portwrinkle. Cliffs slope down to the beach, with chalets in places, including Tregonhawke (acclaimed restaurant, beach café) and Freathy (playing field/tennis court, buses to foot ferry to Plymouth from Cremyll) hamlets. Good surfing; HMS Scylla (sunk for marine research) attracts divers. Beach fishing; coarse fishing nearby. Cliff-top golf. Coastal walks. Millbrook, 1 mile; Kingsand/Cawsand, 2.
All ground floor. Two bedrooms: 1 x double with doors to deck and sea views, 1 x twin. Open-plan living area with sitting area with sofa bed (alternative sleeping only), kitchen and dining area and glazed doors to deck. Shower-room with shower, basin and WC.
WHITSAND BAY Set in a bowl of hills at the head of a tidal creek that leads to the Hamoaze, opposite the great naval city of Plymouth, Millbrook is located on the Rame Peninsula, "Cornwall's Forgotten Corner". Bounded by the Lynher and Tamar rivers, the Hamoaze and the sea, the area is deeply rural and designated as one of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village has a good range of shops and pubs, while close by are the pretty coastal villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, from which a ferry will take you to Plymouth. Along the southern edges of the peninsula are miles of beautiful walks with glorious views of Rame Head. Just a mile south of Millbrook lies Whitsand Bay with its miles of uncrowded sandy RNLI patrolled beach and dramatic cliffs. A superb base for discovering the wild side of Cornwall.
