    Excellent for an extended family getaway. The owners must be justly proud. The rooms and facilities are top notch and nothing is spared to make visitors welcome, inside and also outside in the lovely garden with the rolling hills in the background. However, we had an unfortunate arrival which I put down to insufficient online information. The “front” door is easily missed as in our case. It is not on the high profiled side of the house which is rightly featured in photos. So, when tired after a car journey and frustrating search etc I rang and spoke to a nice young lady who was trying to be helpful about the key security box’s location I am sorry to say I took out my frustration on her. That was wrong, so please accept my apology. However, you really need to (1) provide an advance site plan showing the exact location of the front door and the adjoining parking area on arrival and (2) highlight this information to avoid any possible confusion.

The property

Lower Widdicombe Farm is a working farm at the end of ½ mile of private drive, surrounded by its own 280 acres of verdant farmland.

It’s a mile inland from the sea, between the coastal villages of Torcross and Beesands (2 road miles from each).

Footpaths crisscross the land, leading to the Coast Path and the shingle beach, pub and café at Beesands (½ mile).

The drive sweeps down past old farm buildings to a large courtyard, open garage and this 19th cent.

The house, with sea glimpses from all front-facing windows, has been brought bang-up-to-date with careful and thoughtful renovation and furnished with flair to create a unique, stylish and spacious home.

To the front of the house, a south-facing terrace (picnic tables) with seaward views over rolling farmland, perfect for sundowners.

Steps lead to a rough sloping lawn beyond for running free and ball kicking.

At the heart of the house, generous farmhouse kitchen/dining room with French windows to the terrace: to one end, a bespoke oak table/benches, woodburner and snuggle chairs and, at the other, a beautiful hand-built kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, electric range oven/induction hob, drinks fridge, double sink).

Behind the kitchen, a large, bright boot room (fridge-freezer, original well) with stable doors and original slate floor, the place to ditch walking boots, coats and soggy dogs.

Up 14 stone steps, large games room (table tennis, table football, TV/DVD) with sofas.

A fabulous house in a great spot for exploring the beautiful South Hams coast and kicking back with your nearest and dearest or for get-togethers and celebrations at any time of year. Beesands: tiny village (good pub, fish restaurant) beside the beach (coarse sand/pebbles) and on the Coast Path, looking straight out to sea and across Start Bay to Start Point and its lighthouse.

Locally caught fish for sale; excellent farm shop at Stokenham, 2 miles.

Kingsbridge and East Portlemouth (foot ferry to Salcombe), 6 miles.

The small fishing village of Beesands is situated within the South Hams area of Devon, within reach of the towns of Kingsbridge and Salcombe.
