“An impressive property for a multi generational family holiday.”
Choice of reception rooms allowed room for everyone. Great outside space. Is in need of a bit of TLC
Choice of reception rooms allowed room for everyone. Great outside space. Is in need of a bit of TLC- Peter, October 2021
“We had a brilliant week.”- Julia, October 2021
“Beechlands is a great house in just about every respect and we had a great week there.”- David, September 2021
“The house was beautiful and had everything we needed.”
We particularly enjoyed the outdoor space, amount of seating available and the number of different communal rooms there were for finding a moment of quiet. Thank you so much for providing such a lovely place to stay, we will definitely be returning!- Anna, September 2021
“Family holiday enjoyed by three generations and a dog, with lots of outdoor space (and indoors too).”
We didn't even use the 3rd lounge/dining room! Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and wonderful views over the lake to the fields with horses and sheep. Covid precautions/hand sanitizer and cleaning products provided. Thanks also to Rachel (housekeeper) and "the lads" for their assistance. Narrow country lanes around Chagford and the property.- Eileen, May 2021
“Lovely house but rather neglected furnishings.”
Most of the kitchen and Dining chairs were broken or rickety. The advert does not mention the stables and B&B next to the house. This meant that there needed to be access restrictions to the property. Also because of the stables when you opened a window there was an invasion of flies. Kitchen oven needs a deep clean. Child's high chair not serviceable. Frayed and broken straps. Also the advert does not mention the restrictions to the rooms dogs can go in. Dogs not allowed upstairs and expected to sleep in the conservatory. Difficult for dogs who are used to sleeping with family. Should be mentioned in advert. Also conservatory not lockable from outside door so very worrying having dog alone in a non secure area. Overall a very nice house with lovely surroundings but given all the restrictions and dared furnishings not worth the money paid for the stay.- Christine, October 2020
Thank you for completing your feedback which we have discussed with the owner. We are sorry you feel the property did not meet your expectations. The owner of Beechlands pride themselves in cleanliness especially during these difficult times as you can see from the cleanliness ratings online, the property scores very highly for this aspect, we can only apologise if you feel this was not the case on this occasion. The best effort is made to maintain all furnishings, however due to the fact most are antique it was perhaps not what you expected? Having said this, all kitchen chairs have just been replaced this year. The stables and cottages are mentioned on both the Sykes and HH websites, unfortunately the affiliate site you made your booking through does not, we will look to rectify this. The team are trying to do everything they can to keep their guests and others at Beechlands safe therefore they have chosen to put some small restrictions in place by separating the property from the yard and land to minimise contact as per Government guidelines. In line with HH booking terms pets are not allowed upstairs in any of our properties, we are sorry if you missed this, although it is recommended dogs are kept in the porch as it's a great place for them to dry and clean off, dogs can also be kept securely in the kitchen/downstairs areas of the house if needed which is why stair gates are provided throughout. Due to crossing over the normal changeover day and using up 2 potential weeks for a 7 night stay, the dates you chose would have been reflected in the price, this cost would have been clearly shown to you before confirming your booking. Had we been made aware of any of the issues mentioned during your stay the team at Beechlands would have most certainly tried to rectify any issues for you, Property Owner
“Superb house with excellent support from the delightful housekeeper.”
The house is ideal for adults, but little there for Children but, the ponds and outside space is superb. All rooms are huge, note the en suites are baths so if you shower there is one family bathroom, the en-suites do need showers fitting.- Paul, October 2020
“We had a fabulous break.”
Stunning location. Very helpful housekeeper. Loads of great walks, fun fishing, lovely pubs. Who could ask for more! We will be back. Thank you.- Joanne, October 2020
Photographs did not do the house justice!- Sarah, September 2020
“Beechlands is a fabulous place to stay with a large family.”
The lakes and the garden are just lovely, ducks and geese, large grass area for the kids to play and a swing. We had to take our own bedding due to cordona virus bit not a problem, cleaning stuff and hand gel etc were provided, the Housekeeper was very helpful- Nigel, July 2020
“Amazing house, really enjoyed it.”- Matthew, September 2019
“The setting was amazing!”
The house was huge, the bedrooms were all extremely comfortable. Plenty of bathrooms and the games room provided hours of fun. We had a wonderful time. Chagford is a lovely little town with good facilities and nice pubs. We highly recommend it!- Angela, August 2019
“The house was superb, perfect for multi generational families, with plenty of space for relaxing.”
The games room was a particular hit with the teenagers in our group. The grounds are beautiful and great fun was had by humans and dogs in the lake, kayaking and swimming.- Barbara, August 2019
“Not only is it big enough for our extended family , it's big enough that you can find the space to be alone when the mood takes you.”
Three sitting rooms are a massive bonus and on top of that you have the basement with table football, pool table, darts etc. Fabulous rooms and extremely comfortable beds plus gorgeous scenery to wake up to every day, including large ponds that look more like lakes . Wild life in abundance and beautiful gardens add to your total relaxation. This was our second year and it hopefully wont be our last.- Denise, June 2019
“An extra front door key would have been useful.”
We were a party of nine from 5 different locations. During the week the last one out of the house was not always the first to return.- Catherine, May 2019
“We had a great time and Rachel looked after us very well, sorted out any issues as they arose.”
Thank you Rachel Beechlands is a very special property with a exceptionally lovely garden with views- Patrick, May 2019
“What a wonderful place, great house with all you want.”
The scenery fantastic and a lovely village nearby at Chagford. The house is easy big enough for 10 people and has so much character, the lake and and grounds are well kept. I would love to go again.- Brian, May 2019
“The property is stunning!”
Absolutely perfect for our group mini break with small children. The host was really welcoming. The property is rather unique for the art work and other decorative pieces so check the rooms before letting small children into some. We would recommend this for any large gathering. The surroundings are stunning and a very short skip over a style & gate to reach town.- Emma, May 2019
Very clean in and out, highly recommend this place for large families and kids. Thanks again- Reza, April 2019
“A beautiful place in a truly beautiful setting.”- Jenny, March 2019
“The property was everything we were expecting.”
The house was beautiful, a real credit to the owners. We met Mary Lou on arrival (we were a little early, but sat in the beautiful garden). John was also there and gave us an insight to the area. We were a family of three generations from aged 7 to 70 and there was enough space for us all. The children really enjoyed exploring the house and playing outside. They even gave up gadgets for the week, which was a bonus !!!- Peter, October 2018
“Terrific house, comfortable, spacious, great for kids looking for various indoor and outdoor settings to play in, elegant, a certain oasis to relax in and Chagford, just down the road, is a charming English village.”- Will, July 2018
“Peaceful pastoral location, with sheep baaing and birds twittering.”
The house is so spacious and there was room for 3 family groups to mingle and separate as desired. We suggested some curtains or blinds for the top floor bedroom to avoid early waking, although the view is spectacular across the hills, so I could why you might not want to hide it! Beds large and comfortable, carpeting thick and clean, games, books, pictures make this a unique holiday home. We enjoyed a super week.- Tim, May 2018
“Totally misleading website content regarding the Good Housekeeping Bond.”
Complaint now being lodged with Advertising Standards Authority and Trading Standards to investigate. I will never use your Company again.- Jackie, April 2018
“Beechlands is a lovely house in a fantastic location.”
Sadly, however, we had a lot of problems, which were exacerbated by the cold and wet weather in early April. 1. The two radiators in the top bedroom weren't working properly and need bleeding - and only one of the three windows had blinds. So the room was very cold. And although the coloured ceiling lights are fun, they're not very practical or functional when it's dark. 2. There wasn't enough water pressure to have a hot bath in top bedroom. By the time the bath was 1/4 full the water had gone cold. 3. The underfloor heating in the conservatory - described as the perfect place to dry dogs and walking gear - wasn't working. 4. As we couldn't dry our coats in the conservatory, we thought we'd hang them on the hooks above the radiator in the ground floor bathroom. But that radiator wasn't working either. 5. There was no welcome manual with information about when the heating comes on, where to put the rubbish, when the rubbish gets collected, how to recycle stuff, etc. Just a laminated sheet of paper with a few basic details. 6. The radiator in the red ensuite bedroom wasn't working properly (the top half got warm but the bottom half didn't) and the radiator/heated towel rail in the ensuite didn't work at all. 7. The dishwasher was leaking.. 8. The kettle blew and tripped the electrics. 9. The DVD player in the room with the fire wasn't working. Luckily one of the guests, who is a bit of a technie, managed to sort out the scart leads and get it going. I emailed Helpful Holidays about the above on the 1st of April and Helen kindly got in touch with me. I also sent the housekeeper Mary Lou a text and she immediately sorted out a new kettle, a second duvee for the red bedroom and two electric heaters for the conservatory. She also offered to bleed the radiators but we were happy to do that once we had been given a radiator key. Once we were warm and dry, things got a lot better. Having been made aware of the problems, I'm sure the owners and Helpful Holidays will sort them out and future guests will have a lovely time.- Claire, March 2018
