“Carlsberg don't make holiday cottages, but if they did it would be Dial House Cottage.”

This was probably THE best equipped cottage we have EVER stayed in.

This was probably THE best equipped cottage we have EVER stayed in. Maps of the local area and further afield, recommendations for where to eat in the locality, a kitchen full of every kitchen tool you might possibly need (all too often we've discovered that the kitchen has a very blunt knife, a rolling pin, and a bowl too small to really do anything with). Would definitely recommend this cottage as an ideal base to explore North Dartmoor on foot.

The property

½ mile from Chagford, a detached cottage, secluded down a shared private drive/track, near the owners' house.

Small lawned area with decking (table/chairs) looking over fields (horses sometimes); field for children and dogs to play in.

Inside, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped.

Two steps up to entrance through conservatory (good for summer eating) into good-sized living/dining room (TV/DVD).

Well-equipped kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker); utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, loo).

Steep stairs (stairgate) up to two double bedrooms, (one king size, can convert to 2'6" twin) and lovely countryside view (the other double bed has a footboard).

Bathroom (suite with corner bath plus separate shower).

Cot and highchair available on request.

Smoking only permitted in the conservatory.

A delightful place to stay. Chagford: lively, friendly little town (pubs, shops, outdoor swimming pool, tennis) away from main roads in the shelter of high Dartmoor.

Past it the River Teign (fishing) hurries through woods and meadows below Castle Drogo (Nat.

Trust).

Excellent walking; superb views.

Open moor, 2 miles; golf, 3; Exeter (city amenities), 17; sea/beaches, about 20.

About the location

CHAGFORD

Okehampton 12 miles; Exeter 21 miles.

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Chagford, one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.
