    We found it had everything we needed. It was beautifully presented and very well equipped. The garden is super too - a large sun deck, plenty of lawn for playing on and access to it via doors from lounge and kitchen. Also totally private. We were a party of 6 adults, 1 infant and 1 dog. It was perfect for all of us. It was large enough for us to have our own privacy or for us all to be together. The owners made us feel very welcome immediately on arrival by leaving flowers, biscuits, wine and milk as well as treats for our dog. The feel good factor kicked in straight away. Woolston is a tiny hamlet but beaches, coastal walks, cafes, shops and pubs are close by. We all loved the beaches and the cliff walks with wonderful views and there are lots of places to visit nearby. This was a holiday cottage of a very high standard and the surrounding area was super too. We will certainly go back.

The property

Off a quiet hedgerow lane on the edge of Woolston hamlet, a spacious ‘upside down’ cottage sympathetically converted from barns in a small row around the courtyard of this former farmstead.

Over three floors with split-level foundations, light from big windows, cool coastal colours, polished wood floors and comfortable furnishings make this a relaxed place to stay year-round.

Behind, a south-facing garden with steps up to suntrap deck (table/chairs, barbecue) and gently sloping lawn with fruit trees and gate (lockable) to side lane.

Path across shared courtyard to front door to hall (cupboard for coats/boots); two smart bedrooms - a double with en suite shower-room (suite), and a twin (zip-linkable to 6' double) with en suite loo, both with window seats looking over small tiered Mediterranean-style courtyard; bathroom (suite plus hand-shower).

Open tread spiral stairs (stairgate) up to open-plan living/dining room with woodburner (logs provided), TV/DVD/PVR, high ceilings and huge glazed doors to garden; stylish kitchen (slimline dishwasher, small microwave, fridge-freezer, ceramic hob/electric oven) with glazed door to garden; utility cupboard (washing machine, tumble drier); loo.

More spiral stairs up to second floor and the huge master double bedroom (6' bed) with high ceilings, apex beams, Velux window and en suite bathroom (suite, ¾-size bath plus hand-shower, bidet).

Arrival after 4pm.

A relaxed and peaceful retreat after a day exploring and enjoying nearby beaches. Woolston: tiny farming hamlet in lanes, 1½ miles from Malborough (shop, garage).

Salcombe and Kingsbridge, 3 miles.
