  • “This property is in the most beautiful location.”

Its a very large accommodation with more than enough parking and room for 8 people. However if like me you are looking for ground floor accommodation because someone in ur party has any kind of disability then this isnt for you. we booked because my mum is disabled, sadly she was unable to come at the last min but we knew once we got there this turned out to be a good thing. Having all en suits is lovely but because the water pressure is so low we all had to take turns anyway and even then it was really bad. The hand held showers are worse than useless and there are no shower curtains or screens. the walk in shower is tiny! The sofa's are lovely but extremely uncomfortable and not easy to get out of once you've sat down. The kitchen is very well stocked. Its overall a lovely property but if I had read other peoples reviews I probably wouldlnt have booked it for our family holiday. We had a great time though and the things I've mentioned may not be a problem for other people, just the opinions of my group. One last point, not about the house but the area............. its stunning but if ur not a confident driver be warned that alot of the roads leading to the property are barely wide enough for ur car with very few passing places. I have been visiting and staying in Devon many years and this was scary even for me! ha ha! Maybe add to the description of the house that there are no hand rails in the bathrooms for those people booking with disabilities and no smoke alarms in the kitchen or dining room

Thank you for your feedback. There is a ground floor bedroom with an ensuite to suit those with mobility needs. However, we still encourage guests with concerns to contact us prior to booking to discuss the suitability of the property. The owner has made contact with the water board and unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about the water pressure and this is something that comes with living in the South West countryside. The same can be said for the country lanes. There are no handrails in the pictures on our listing and there is a smoke alarm outside the kitchen as per fire safety regulations that ask for one smoke alarm per floor. We hope you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

The property

This wonderful semi-detached cottage is located in the 50 acre grounds of the owners’ farmland in the village of Doddiscombsleigh near Exeter.

With breath-taking views overlooking the Teign Valley and an elevated position, this property is perfect for a family seeking some peace and quiet in the tranquil Devon countryside.

As you enter you will be amazed at how beautiful the rooms are presented, with a charming seating area in the entrance hallway and an all-white, neutral colour scheme creating a calming, tranquil atmosphere throughout.

The sitting room has plush red sofas and wooden floors, a luxurious, quality standard which is mirrored in the dining room and the kitchen.

Wonderfully appointed, the kitchen has a modern, chic finish and is perfectly laid out for cooking up a scrumptious family meal.

Step into the charming dining room set for eight and enjoy the social aspect it has to offer, perhaps in the warmer seasons you may want to dine alfresco and make use of the barbecue on the patio.

The bedrooms all comprise lovely bedding, are thoughtfully decorated and accompanied by contemporary en-suite facilities for your comfort.

Outside you can enjoy the beautiful tranquil atmosphere in the secluded rear garden just off from the king-size bedroom, or better still, enjoy the spectacular vistas overlooking the front terrace.

There are plenty of opportunities for those seeking walking or cycling routes with many outdoors activities or the doorstep.

The lovely city of Exeter offers paddling and kayaking along the river and admire the stunning cathedral.

The shops and restaurants will satisfy your taste for the vibrant city and the nearby Haldon Forest will fulfil your thirst for adventure.

Willhayes is a superb cottage in an idyllic holiday setting.

About the location

EXETER

Shillingford Abbot 2.4 miles; Exminster 4 miles; Topsham 4.4 miles.

Exeter is a lively city in south Devon with a magnificent cathedral, historic quayside area with artisan shops and cafes, guided tours of the maze of underground passages and a wealth of bars, shops and restaurants. There is a good choice of excellent museums tracing the city’s lengthy history including an interesting medieval building The Tucker’s Hall, built for the Company of Weavers, Tuckers and Shearman which houses exceptional carved panelling, rare silver and a 4 feet long pair of fulling shears. Nearby Parliament Street claims to be the world’s narrowest street – less than 25 inches at its narrowest. The gatehouse and tower of Rougemont castle still stand in the city, surrounded by Rougemont gardens with a backdrop of Roman wall ruins - a tranquil haven. Exeter’s one time importance as a port is reflected in the Custom House, now the centrepiece of the Quayside, a fascinating complex of antique shops and cafes. Within a 15 minute drive of the city, there are some fabulous beaches at Sidmouth and Exmouth, and the start of the 95 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, all of which provide ample opportunities for relaxation, sport and exploration. Exeter is an ideal south Devon base from which to explore pretty countryside and Heritage Coast.
