“Lovely quiet location, but close enough to local attractions.”
We had a really wonderful holiday.
We had a really wonderful holiday.
“This is the first helpful holidays cottage we have visited that has not provided a welcome pack containing some foodstuffs eg.”
milk, scones & jam or local biscuits or cake of some type. We wondered if this was because the cottage is being sold? The description "some low lintels" should perhaps say "mostly low lintels" as anyone over 5 feet 7 inches could bang their heads as both my husband and son dd on many occasions.
“I think the deep step from kitchen to hall should be mentioned but more so the low doorways, my poor husband hit his head several times.”
We liked the cottage very much but couldn't work the complicated cooker! We liked the village and the friendly pub.
“The main issue we had with this cottage was the noise of traffic you could hear clearly inside the cottage.”
We would prefer to be in a quieter more relaxing location. This cottage was fairly basic, no frills or extras, the kitchen was not very well equipped, the very least you expect is a decent non stick frying pan, the one in the cottage was rubbish, and it was awkward cooking as the door from the hall opened into the kitchen right next to the cooker. It should be noted in your details that no wood is provided for the open fire and guests are apparently expected to bring their own! Also the driveway is extremely narrow and you should also note this in your details.
“Fantastic cottage - cosy, great kitchen, inviting lounge & great size, comfortable bedrooms.”
Plenty of room for our family (2 adults & 2 children ). Plenty of books & games to keep everyone entertained. Great pub, 1 minute walk away & short 15 minute drive to Lyme Regis, Charmouth & other great beach destinations. Wonderful, thank you.
“The cottage was very comfortable and provided everything we needed to enjoy our stay.”
W had a great break and were lucky with the weather.
“Very comfortable cottage with all appliances, utensils and facilities as advertised.”
Very clean and tidy throughout in lovely location which made for an excellent break.
“Lovely cottage that is larger than it looks in the photos”
“Always a welcoming comfortable stay, hence why we have returned each year .”
..its home from home as one would say
“Windwhistle cottage is in a really lovely village.”
An excellent base for exploring the area and a comfortable home to come back to at the end of the day. Having a community shop is an added bonus. There was only one issue and that was with the downstairs toilet which was very noisy...air in the system?? Would happily return to explore more.
“Good location to visit the local beaches, pubs and swimming pools around the coastline.”
Enjoyed the walks around the village and good choice of meals at The Old Inn. Nearby is Broadwindsor, several local artists & craft studios with a restaurant which we had a lovely cream tea. Not very far away National Trust - Barrington Court (beautiful gardens and big restaurant) Would come back again to visit.
On the edge of Hawkchurch, 30 yards from the pub and church, an end-of-terrace thatched cottage with enclosed garden to the side (next to public playing field with football field, basketball hoop), and yard at the back with utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, fridge-freezer).
Inside, simple yet good cottage furnishings, some low lintels.
Snug living room with open fire and TV/DVD.
Step up to kitchen (slimline dishwasher, microwave, larder fridge, electric oven/induction hob).
Shower-room (suite, 14" step up into cubicle).
Steep stairs up to two bedrooms - a cosy double, and a roomy twin (footboards) with washbasin; bathroom (suite plus hand-shower).
A traditional cottage in an unspoiled village, good for visiting Devon and Dorset. Hawkchurch: where Dorset meets Devon, a village of roses - in 1894 the pioneer rose-growing rector planted roses around every door.
Pretty little village with fine church, good food pub, shop and friendly atmosphere.
The 'Jurassic Coast' (cliffs full of fossils) at Lyme Regis, 7 miles; Axminster (small town), 4.

Hawkchurch is a village in Devon, England, 3 miles north east of Axminster on the border of Devon and Dorset, and about 6 miles south of Somerset. It is 4 miles north of the tourist and fishing village of Lyme Regis. Hawkchurch has a village shop which is run as a community venture. The village pub, The Old Inn, is a traditional coaching house and a hostelry which has been on the site since 1543. Nearby Axminster, which is one of Devon’s prettiest smaller towns, and has many attractions, including plenty of privately owned shops, a weekly market and excellent old inns, with one dating back 100 years with its own resident ghost! The scenic coastal path offers excellent walking opportunities and spectacular views of the stunning Jurassic coast, whilst the gently shelving sands and sparkling waters of Lyme Bay provide the perfect place in which to relax and unwind. Where ever you decide, Hawkchurch is an ideal place to enjoy with easy access to many areas around Dorset and Devon at any time of the year.
