“Lovely quaint cottage and village”

We stayed at this sweet, very clean little cottage in this super friendly village in the middle of Devon. Excellent local pub which serves delicious food. Everything you need a stones throw away - local shop, 2 lovely pubs, a take away Thai and a take away fish and chip ‘pop up’ which visit the village regularly, along with it’s very own Winkleigh cider, which was fabulous!! All surrounding villages have great pubs too and the standard of food was high. What more could you want. A perfect ...

We stayed at this sweet, very clean little cottage in this super friendly village in the middle of Devon. Excellent local pub which serves delicious food. Everything you need a stones throw away - local shop, 2 lovely pubs, a take away Thai and a take away fish and chip ‘pop up’ which visit the village regularly, along with it’s very own Winkleigh cider, which was fabulous!! All surrounding villages have great pubs too and the standard of food was high. What more could you want. A perfect base for exploring Dartmoor and Exmoor and about 40 mins to the nearest beaches. We loved the village and we loved the cottage too, very quaint and the owner left us some nice local goodies which was appreciated. Would certainly recommend it and we will return. We loved it!

“Nice cottage...not the best area though.”

Just stayed here for three nights after our daughters wedding, needed a bit of r & r! The cottage is lovely, filled with all amenities you would need, lots of little extra homely touches too, toiletries in bathroom, poo bags and treats for your dog, all lovely and appreciated. Winkleigh itself was a bit of a let down though, one pub was just for drinking and very rowdy with the locals, the other pub was nice but if you had a dog with you, you could only access the bar area for snacks. There is another tea room in the village but it wasn’t open at all while we were there. There is a small shop and a post office too. The shop wasn’t stocked that good and shut at 5pm. Due to these issues, we had to drive out of the area to find places to eat, one thing we really didn’t want to do! Would I go back to higher primrose cottage.....hell yes I would! Would I go back or Winkleigh....not a chance!

This charming cottage is a mid-terrace property located in the heart of Winkleigh village.

Okehampton 10 miles; Torrington 13 miles; Exeter 23 miles; Barnstaple 20 miles.

Winkleigh is a small rural village in the heart of Devon's rolling countryside and offers a shop, post office, butcher and a cafe, plus two pubs, one which offers food and the chance to sample traditional ciders and scrumpy from the Winkleigh Cider Company. A van which serves delicious fish and chips also comes to the village twice a week. Winding lanes, high hedgerows and a more gentle pace of life characterise the area. The open tors of Dartmoor are a big attraction for nature lovers and walkers, while the hills of Exmoor and the surfing beaches can all be reached in 40 minutes by car. Historic Torrington, home to RHS Rosemoor and an arts centre is just 13 miles away, whilst the Cathedral City of Exeter with its Roman city walls, shopping centre, theatre and restaurants makes a great day out.
