    Mr Courtman

“Regatta House is an impressive ex Merchant/Sea Captain's residence built high on a near-vertical slope.”

This means that you can see the harbour and the town from virtually all of its windows which is magic. However, it's high ceilings mean that you'll be going up and down four extensive flights of stairs - on top of the walk into town which is extremely steep, if very rewarding. So this lovely spacious house is not for the faint-hearted or those with arthritic knees. ...

We loved the house and the town. Both have plenty to offer. The kitchen and bathrooms are very nicely done and we spent a lot of time with our family sitting round the dining table with its views of the town. We struggled to get comfortable and/or warm in the lounge as it (and the patio garden) are North facing and never see the sun. The log burning stove played us up all week and we are experienced with the eccentricities of real fires. It kept going out (probably due to damp logs). The sofas need replacing and offer no support/comfort whatsoever. It's a fine line between squidgy and sack of potatoes. Crowther's Hill is so interesting and historic. It would have been good to get some information on the history of the house. Overall, the house was very good value and we would recommend a stay.
