“Wonderful little cottage in a stunning and quiet area.”

Lovely secure garden area for dogs, with access to washing machine and dryer when needed. Cottage has a kitchen with every utensil you could ever possibly need! Very clean and comfortable. Only slight downside was the hand held shower, but to be honest the bath more than made up for that. Comfy beds, plenty of storage, board games and a well stocked bookcase if you want a quiet evening in. Lovely walk to Chagford through the lanes, which has 3 pubs and a small Spar. Comfy beds, plenty of storage, board games and a well stocked bookcase if you want a quiet evening in. Lovely walk to Chagford through the lanes, which has 3 pubs and a small Spar. Otherwise a short drive into Morehampstead with its 3 pubs (The Union Inn and The White Hart were favourties) and a Coop. Great location for exploring Dartmoor, Castle Drogo and Fingle Bridge (the latter of which was a lovely spot for dog walking or just enjoying the peace and tranquillity of nature). Also within 30 minutes of Crealy Adventure Park and River Dart Park. The owners Christine and Martin were very welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend.

The property

About 1½ miles from Chagford and 2 from Moretonhampstead, beside a lane, a little cottage attached to the owners' farmhouse of a 300 acre mixed farm (cattle, sheep) including woodland and ponds (wild duck often).

You are welcome on the farm and to use the owners' garden - lawns to front and back; a barn where swallows and bats roost is next door.

Inside, living room with big beams, woodburner and TV/DVD, open to dining area and fitted kitchen (slimline dishwasher, microwave, fridge, electric cooker).

Stairs from living room up to two bedrooms - a double, and a single.

Bathroom (suite plus hand-shower).

Washing machine and tumble drier in outhouse (space for wet coats/boots).

Fresh veg when available.

A very friendly and much appreciated place. Chagford: lively, friendly little town (pubs, shops, outdoor swimming pool, tennis) away from main roads in the shelter of high Dartmoor.

Past it the River Teign (fishing) hurries through woods and meadows below Castle Drogo (National Trust).

Excellent walking; superb views.

Open moor, 2 miles; golf, 3; Exeter (city amenities), 17; sea/beaches, about 20.

About the location

CHAGFORD

Okehampton 12 miles; Exeter 21 miles.

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Chagford, one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.
