Reviews

    • “The Bothy was a cosy and welcoming retreat on the days the weather wild and wet. In good weather its sheltered location made it a peaceful haven and an excellent base for reaching the Heddon Valley.”

    Mr Patrick, PONTYPRIDD, March 2018

The Property

2 miles from Parracombe, and a 2½ mile walk from the little pebble beach at dramatic Heddon's Mouth, deep in a lush tranquil wooded valley, three cottages which started life as grain and animal barns. They nestle, with the farmhouse, in the shelter of mature trees and ancient hedgerows - full of wild flowers, birds and butterflies at the right time of year - and have lovely views to Trentishoe Down. There are 40 acres of pasture, streams, wild wood and moorland which you are welcome to explore. This is terrific walking country, far away from the hustle of modern urban life, and an ideal spot to enjoy its calm. Timeless green lane and woodland footpath (walking boots needed) to Hunters Inn, about 1½ miles. Shared use of laundry room (washing machine, tumble drier) and games barn (table tennis, pool table). Spring water. The Bothy: a private detached single-storey cottage with French windows overlooking its little wild garden. Approached via 80 yards of sloping path, 4 steps up to glazed doors into large open-plan room with high beams, painted wood floor (rug), antique furniture, comfy sofa, TV/DVD, dining table/chairs, woodburner and imposing four-poster bed (5’); 2 steps up to little kitchen with combi-microwave, fridge and electric cooker, through to shower-room (suite). No children, except pre-crawling babies. A romantic cottage.

Parracombe: tiny village (great pub, medieval church with famous Georgian interior, PO/shop, pottery) near Exmoor's dramatic coast in a valley midway between Lynton/Lynmouth, 8 miles, and Combe Martin, 6 miles. This is steep, dramatic, deep-valleyed, farming, wooded and moorland country: very beautiful. Wide sandy beaches at Woolacombe and Croyde, about 12 miles.
