“Such a fantastic place, very cozy with underfloor heating, Aubrey and Judi were fantastic, we like to leave the car and walk and it was a perfect location to do this, such a beautiful area with amazing views, if you want to venture out in the car lots of things to do within a short distance.”

The property is beautifully presented, and the welcome pack of bread, milk and fresh fruit was a treat. Everything is so well thought out, we were very impressed. The owners, Aubrey and Judi were so kind from the moment we arrived to our departure. We were treated like family, and could not have been made to feel more welcome. Our break was a real joy.

“We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Trilbys.”

Aubrey and Judi were the perfect hosts, extremely welcoming and thoughtful, the absolute opposite of overbearing, yet you felt like they were there to help if needed. The cottage is extremely well-equipped and in a beautiful location. It feels like a real lot of care and thought has gone into making the cottage as nice and enjoyable to stay in as possible, every detail has been considered inside, and they even offered to fill the bird feeders for us so we could watch the birds from the kitchen window. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone, especially for a quiet, relaxing, and stress-free holiday. (Note for Aubrey and Judi: we did pick the sloes and we will make sloe gin for Christmas!)

“We loved Trilbys and had a wonderful week.”

With the router installed there were no problems with internet connection at all so this should be reflected in the description of the cottage. I was impressed with the attention to detail of the owners, who thought of everything, from the furnishing of the cottage, down to the lovely, generous welcome pack. Our only suggestion would be to make a simple map available (if possible) before arrival, of the roads around Chagford and the cottage. But it was just delightful.

“The perfect hideaway on Dartmoor.”

Well appointed providing a peaceful place to relax and enjoy a most beautiful environment.The traditional walled garden offers a place to read, paint, engage with nature and relax. The location of the accommodation offers walkers an opportunity to discover the lanes and walk on the moor. Nearby Chagford is a resource worth visiting offering individual shops and facilities, a place fir breakfast, lunch or dinner. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and the accommodation had everything that we required to enjoy our stay.

“Trilbys is a delightful bolt hole for a relaxing stay.”

It is presented in tip top condition and is very well equipped. There is no wifi, but honestly that was a bonus! The owners are adjacent and are extremely friendly and helpful. A highlight is the lovely little walled garden where you can take the evening sun and chill. The bedroom overlooks the garden and the trees beyond, and it was a lovely view to wake up to. Bird feeders are dotted around and kept well supplied, so there was always plenty of activity there to keep anyone with even a passing interest in nature amused. We definitely plan to return.

“This is a lovely cottage, in the grounds of the owners' home but with its own beautiful private garden.”

Please don't be put off by the proximity of the owners. They are the perfect hosts, gave us total privacy but stopped to chat whenever we wanted to, and they are incredibly kind, interesting people. The cottage has that perfect combination of original features and high-quality mod cons! The underfloor heating is a particularly comfortable touch. The weather varied wildly, but indoors we were never too hot or cold. The garden is so beautiful that it made me take up a sketch pad for the first time in years! The nearby village has everything you need (Spar chemist etc. - and make sure you visit a shop called Random'!) there are interesting towns in the area, and the wild Dartmoor scenery is breathtaking. There are plenty of gorgeous lakes which also make it an ideal spot for keen fishermen/women and the trout is one of the best things I've tasted. Many thanks to Aubrey and Judi for your kindness and generous hospitality! We'll come back, I'm sure. (Please note, this is not a venue for those who want internet or mobile phone access! But there is a TV and radio, it's only a 10 minute walk to 4G cover, there's a landline phone so your loved ones can reach you, and it's perfect for a digital detox!)

“Brilliant setting - quiet and peaceful.”

Near to brilliant little town of Chagford and Dartmoor walks. The cottage, though small is really well equipped - providing you're happy to be wifi-free and out of phone signal reach. We were! Above all, the proprietors are absolutely lovely and extremely willing to help with any query or problem.

The warm and cosy little cottage, had everything we needed, plus a beautiful garden. Whilst there was no wi fi, we didn't miss it and didn't have to go far for a signal if we needed it. It's a perfect area for walking and such a friendly area. Judy and Aubrey were amazing hosts who so friendly, helpful and kind. I would definitely recommend.

“Our stay at Trilby's was amazing!”

Our four nights felt like a full week in terms of the benefit we felt. Aubrey and Judi are the loveliest hosts we've met on Dartmoor. There was a beautiful hamper of useful goodies waiting and they were so helpful when our car wouldn't start on our penultimate day, it was really touching. Their lovely cottage is perfectly located for a truly peaceful stay and lots of long walks on the moor. We are definitely returning (and in all honesty didn't really want to leave...). Thank you both so much :)

“We came to visit Trilbys cottage beforehand, so we knew about the lovely space and its high standard and qualities.”

We very much enjoyed the silence and stillness around the house; the beautiful garden; the richness of fine walks onto any direction through quiet lanes, and into the fields. Easy walking distance to Chagford (appr. 25 min) made our stay perfect - being close to this dynamic Stannary Town, but also in a nice remote distance not to be constantly seduced to drink coffees or teas in the many tearooms and pubs around. Some people might see it a problem that the cottage hasn't got regular wifi and poor mobile signal. We thought it a good opportunity to mainly connect to nature - and, now and then, allow us to chat with the very friendly owners, Judy and Aubrey. For us, regaular visitors to the area for over 20-odd yrs, it has been a very good 2 weeks stay. Thank you.

Its a bit off the beaten track but is secure and secluded. if you are an avid TV buff, I suggest you only visit when the weather is good. ****Owner response**** Thank you very much for your feedback, we're delighted to hear you liked the cottage and had a good holiday. We're sorry you had trouble with the television, it seems some rain had got into the aerial box which caused problems. We would like to reassure future guests that this has been fully resolved and the television is fully functional! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Okehampton 12 miles; Exeter 21 miles.

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Chagford, one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.
