The Property

About 3 miles from Ilminster, within a great country estate, the Gingerbread House is thatched, hexagonal, Grade II listed. On the edge of woods, about 300 yards down a farm track, 100 yards from farm buildings and about 300 yards from the busy A358 road (visible), it was built c1800 as the gardener's home. Good-sized, secluded lawn (table/chairs, barbecue), leading to woods and fields. You are welcome to walk the 500 acres of farmland, park and woodland, by arrangement.Leaded pine-shuttered gothic windows and some low lintels (6'). Studded front door. Little hall. Two living rooms, one with open fireplace and TV/DVD. Small step down to kitchen/dining room (slimline dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker). Loo (washing machine, tumble drier). Steep, curved stairs (rope rail) up to three bedrooms - a double, a twin, and 3 steps down to another twin (limited clothes-hanging space) and big bathroom (suite, shower over bath). Lovely walking in the surrounding woods and fields.

Ilminster: fine small market town (shops, restaurants) at the heart of the ‘Hamstone country’. Nat. Trust houses/gardens within 10 miles (Barrington Court, Montacute). Sea, about 15 miles (Dorset 'Jurassic Coast'). Yeovilton air base nearby. Very easy to reach: M5, 8 miles; A303 straight there.
