“Friendly owner, very clean and well presented.”
“This is such wonderful place to stay, we all loved it, it is very special and we can't wait to go back.”
“Absolutely perfect holiday and break away in a beautiful setting”
“It was a perfect base for us to stay with our family and young grand daughter.”
loved staying in such an unusual shaped and old house. it looked small from the outside but was amazingly spacious within. very organic and felt like being in a snail shell going round and up the stairs. the estate it was in was interesting with a folly shell house. we would definitely recommend it.
“weekly holiday in a lovely setting”
we first stayed here in 2001 for our honeymoon and keep coming back. Lovely wood fire in main room and comfy beds, one double and 4 singles over 3 bedrooms. Can be chilly in colder months but plenty to visit and places to eat. We have used other places but keep coming back,
“Love the new kitchen, first came here in 2001 and keep coming back.”
“The Gingerbread House was an absolute dream.”
Beautiful building in the beautiful countryside. Peaceful and quiet. The house was a revelation. The owner came to see us on the first night and was incredibly pleasant and courteous. There was 5 of us plus my dog and we were situated within great range to all the places we wanted to visit such as Glastonbury and Cheddar. The house was equipped with everything you could need but no Wi-Fi. This was no problem to us as having a few days away from the tech has been super refreshing. We will definitely be booking to return. Thanks to the owners of the Gingerbread House for making this delightful place available to us.
“Such a relaxing holiday cottage is quaint has everything you need and has adequate heating.”
“Like opening a chocolate box with a lovely picture on the front, only to find the chocolates a disappointment.”
To begin with, the directions didn't quite match - there was no sign for "Shrubbery Farm" at the road end as indicated. The "woodland walks" weren't possible because they were so overgrown. The cottage is beautiful and it must be hard making improvements while keeping the character, but it really could do with some TLC - and a thorough clean - to bring it up to today's standards. Everything is a bit tired including crockery, bedding and carpets. There was no cafetiere or coffee machine and the only frying pan was far too small for 6 people - as was the TV. The towel rail in the bathroom took a hand towel only, leaving guests to drape damp towels around bedrooms. Having said all that, the cottage provided a perfect base for us visiting family in the area, and the sitting room was very cosy with the fire on.
“We were told the upstairs heating was automatic.”
Not true. The house was very cold ie;no heating on when we arrived. All cutlery had to be washed before use.You would expect a welcome tray on arrival after paying so much.We had to buy our own toilet paper need i go on. One more thing,we had a power cut on thursday evening, yes there was a torch without batteries, no lamps, no candles and when you phone for help you are told "Sorry cant help you". People who use your service must have very low expectations. Please publish our feedback.

“No longer a house phone with honesty box”
“This property was wonderful.”
The little extras made life very comfortable. A few dishwasher tabs were left, as was fly spray, tea towels, towels, toilet roll, salt, etc. A little while after we arrived the owner popped round to see if everything was in order and gave us advice of where the shops etc were. We were also advised where the lovely walks were on the property, which we were welcome to access. The beds were extremely comfortable and all rooms lovely and clean. We have used Sykes Cottages before and would certainly be a go to site for further breaks.
“Gingerbread House is truely magical.”
It is picturesque in a beautiful setting. We expect high standards from Helpful Holidays and we were not disappointed. The property was clean , comfortable and was equipped to the highest standards. It is conveniently situated for visiting the many attractions in Somerset and southeast Devon. We were extremely lucky with the weather so all in all a perfect holiday. Thanks to all concerned for making it so, including the Helpful Holidays booking staff who made booking so easy.
“It was a family holiday we went to a wedding in honiton and the gingerbread cottage was a great base.”
