Reviews

    • “lovely break quite and relaxing lovely walks nothing in the village beside a pub , some of the country lanes very tight car wing mirrors touching hedgerow either side and do not have any pull in area very difficult when you meet another vehicle this is my only concern”

    Mrs Deville, Wolverhampton, September 2018

    • “The cottage was clean, comfortable and nicely furnished and set in gorgeous countryside near the coast. The beds in particular were very comfortable. A few extra things would have made a big difference though: better lighting; there were no towel rails (heated or otherwise) in the bathroom or even a loo roll holder; the bath towels provided were not big enough; when returning there wasn't really anywhere to get clothes dry after wet walks (the rear porch/conservatory only had a night storage heater and a broken clothes airer, while there were no hooks or shelves in the airing cupboard); the night storage heaters (in the absence of a reliable crystal ball) cannot provide the right level of heating usually being too hot or not warm enough; many of the various guides and manuals in the kitchen drawer were very out of date; no hand towel was provided in the kitchen (only a tea towel). Parking was often a problem and, while a space could always be found somewhere, often meant a treck back to the cottage uphill in the darkness with bags etc; however I realise that this is beyond the scope of the owners. This is a lovely area which after 50 years I still keep coming back to. We had a lovely holiday despite my fairly minor grumbles.”

    Mr Marratt, EPSOM, August 2018

    • “This is a particularly excellent cottage - the owners care a great deal and dropped by to visit, with some new furniture and greetings! We have stayed here before and will stay again this Fall. Parking can be a little challenging, though the neighbours are very helpful. Helpful Holidays was rated very highly by The Guardian, and I hope it will remain so, after the merger with Sykes. I did not wish to leave Kingston, Devon!”

    Mr Orford, Orangeville, May 2018

    • “The cottage was amazing and more than we expected. The photographs were great but actually when we arrived we were blown away with just how lovely it was. We’ll definitely be back. A perfect week. Thank you so much.”

    Mr Trott, OXFORD, April 2018

The Property

In the heart of Kingston, a pretty, Grade II listed, thatched cottage (end one of five), 300 yards from the pub. Tiny raised-wall front garden with listed cobbled path; small enclosed back garden with 5 steps up to lawn (low wall - small children beware), table/chairs and useful shed for bicycles/surfboards; gate to side lane and next door cottage. Inside, living room with beams and exposed stonework, large chimney breast (woodburner), TV/DVD; fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with handsome wood-block floor and stable doors to useful boot/coat room (washer-drier) opening to garden. Steep stairs (stairgates) up to two bedrooms - a double (5' bed), and a twin; 3 steps down to bathroom (suite, shower over bath). Arrival after 4pm. A very pretty comfortable cottage in a delightful village, welcoming at any time of year.

Kingston: remarkably off-the-beaten-track little village (good pub, church) with lots of pretty houses, a mile from the River Erme’s beautiful wooded estuary and good sandy Wonwell beach (bodyboarding, paddle boarding, kayaking). St Ann’s Chapel (PO/shop), 1 mile. More fine sandy beaches and golf at Bigbury-on-Sea/Burgh Island, 4 miles; for shops, pretty Modbury, 3½ miles.
