Charlie and Julia were excellent hosts - as well as all the homemade goodies they were always available to help, from solving some minor technical issues with the sound system to clearing the driveway of snow! They also sent one of our child's toys to us through the post that we did not realise he had left behind - a lovely gesture. The Property

As you approach via a sweeping tree-lined driveway, the striking timber clad design of The Granary becomes visible, the geometrical golden larch exterior blending seamlessly into the soft green leafy surroundings. For exploring this region you could not be better placed with the A30 just two miles distant, making trips to the Jurassic coast to visit seaside towns such as Branscombe & Sidmouth or into the city of Exeter, to enjoy some retail therapy and a spot of lunch, an easy half hour drive.


Designed for luxury living, the uncluttered open plan interior is overflowing with fabulous mod cons including Sonos sound system, Smart TV, Nespresso machine, and a sleek bioethanol fire providing real flame at the touch of a button. In addition, discreet functional features such as bespoke kitchen with adjustable height induction hob make this a perfect retreat for those in wheelchairs or with mobility issues. The two super stylish bedrooms, furnished with deep pocket sprung mattresses, luxury Egyptian cotton linen and goose down duvets, overlook the garden and countryside via sliding patio doors that lead onto the timber veranda. Each with their own en-suite; the master is fitted with a spacious wet room including his and her basins, low level lighting, fold up seat and a deep relaxing tub to luxuriate in, whilst you watch your favourite shows on the wall mounted TV. Of course there is a telephone in both bathrooms should you need to make contact with the outside world! For guests' supreme comfort, the master bedroom is furnished with independently, electrically adjustable mattresses. Each bedroom has hanging space, shelves and a desk.


Outside a timber veranda, illuminated at night with sparkling LED lighting is the perfect place to enjoy evenings and sunsets whilst overlooking the garden and pond. There is even an outdoor shower, to hose off any muddy paws or boots, or enjoy a cooling shower during hot summer months. The garden is fully enclosed with wire-netted post and rail fencing. The Granary welcomes dogs and children, however parents must note that the pond within the garden is open and unfenced and children must be supervised at all times.


Enjoy this beautiful retreat at any time of year and, if you have friends or family who wish to visit, the owners offer B & B accommodation next door. There are numerous places to visit on your doorstep. Escot Park and gardens is a day out for the whole family and just 1 mile away. Ottery St Mary, famous for its traditional burning of Tar Barrels every year is just 3 miles and National Trust Killerton House is close by. A stay here would not be complete without a trip to the dramatic and beautiful Jurassic coast, where coastal walks and days on the beach can be enjoyed at your leisure. For eating out you will not be stuck for choice, your nearest pub being The Thirsty Farmer in Whimple roughly 2 miles away.

Regional Information

OTTERY ST MARY Alfington 2 miles; Honiton 5.5 miles; Sidmouth 6.5 miles; Exeter 14 miles. Ottery St Mary sits beside the River Otter and is well known for its literary connections to the poet Coleridge and for its beautiful church often referred to as a Exeter cathedral lookalike. Ottery St Mary is also famous for its traditional 'Tar Barrels' which attracts more than 3000 visitors on 5th November each year. Ottery has welcoming traditional Devon pubs and plenty of individual shops, offering quality local produce and a warm welcome to visitors. The area is a walkers’ paradise, with strolls along the banks of the River Otter or hill climbs offering magnificent views as far as Dartmoor. Nearby Escot Country Park is a fabulous wildlife visitor attraction for the whole family and the dramatic 20 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site is a short drive from Ottery where resorts such as Seaton, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth and Sidmouth are found along this stretch of coastline. An easy drive from Ottery is the cathedral city of Exeter with plenty of large shops, a wealth of museums, a theatre and many fabulous restaurants.
