The stone spiral staircase is a real feature but could be an issue for the less agile. Likewise the beautifully kept garden, with many interesting features but plenty of steps. Probably the most 'dog friendly' cottage we have stayed in, with a complete kit of everything a dog needs including dog bed!”

The Property

On a quiet lane 150 yards from the centre of Loddiswell, a pretty, Grade II listed, thatched, detached cottage. At the back, stone steps up to good-sized enclosed garden with lovely rural views, gravelled sitting-out area (table/chairs, barbecue) and storage for bicycles/surfboards. Inside, stylish and quirky with painted beams and white walls. Two steps up to front door and porch with space for coats/boots. Living room with large inglenook (woodburner) and TV/DVD. Kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker with double oven). From the kitchen, 4 steps up to additional seating area (washing machine, tumble drier in cupboard) with door to steps to garden. Bathroom (suite, shower over bath plus hand-shower). Twisting stone stairs (rope rails) from living room up to a pretty double bedroom (footboard) with en suite shower-room (suite, underfloor heating). Second staircase from kitchen up to a twin bedroom (footboard) with iPod dock. No children under 6, except pre-crawling babies, due to separate stairs. A cottage full of character in a ‘proper’ village, a great base for exploring the best of the South Hams.






Loddiswell: little hillside village (pub, essential shops, church) above the beautiful River Avon valley, 3 miles from Kingsbridge, 5 from the sea (beaches) at Thurlestone and Bantham or Bigbury-on-Sea. Fishing lakes and lovely gardens to visit nearby.
