“The only thing that marred the cottage was that the lights in the hall and washing machine area did not work.”
“Beautiful cottage but location not accurately described on listings.”
No telephone signal at property which should be advertised, I travelled as a single mother with 3 disabled children. During power cuts there was no means of communication and only two torches and a few tea lights. This can’t be foreseen by the owners but I wouldn’t have chosen this location if I’d have known it was this remote. We had to leave our holiday early due to this. It isn’t ‘near’ Widecombe it’s an extra 15 minute slow drive down very narrow lanes. The house is not situated on a country lane it’s situated down a very very narrow single dirt track next to a busy working farm where the farmer is speeding his tractor past after midnight often. I think it’s important to accurately list properties so those of us caring for people with additional needs can make an informed purchase.
We are delighted that you found the cottage beautiful and gave it a top rating for comfort. The location is indicated on google maps on the website which clearly shows that it is in the countryside near Widecombe and not in the center of the village. The lane to the cottage is tarmac and not a dirt road, and in keeping with the moorland roads in the locality. The property has a landline, though only mobile signal on certain networks. We understand there was a National outage for 1 hour during your stay, but this is unusual and was for a very limited time. As your stay was at harvest time there was more more farming activity than. Thank you for taking the time to ensure that our listing clearly reflects the locality and style of The Hayloft. Owner relations
“A country idyll, My wife and I enjoyed the full experience of country living even though it was just a week, the cottage is ideally placed for travel across Dartmoor as well as positioned to be able to enjoy the morning corus, we never once turned the radio on at breakfast.”
I have already recommended the hayloft to my family and will continue tell others. The owner should be justly proud of the standard that is maintained for the Hayloft.
“A lovely, warm and well-equipped cottage.”
Clean and homely. Thoughtful welcome package left for us of eggs, milk, cake and cheese too. Everything worked! Well-placed for good walks on the moor.
“Beautiful quiet location in the depths of Dartmoor National Park.”
We had a lovely holiday.
“It was a peaceful location with a beautiful kitchen/living area that made spending time with my sisters a real joy.”
The place is comfortable and beautiful and everything feels high quality. Even with gales and rain outside all weekend, we were cosy and having a nice time in doors!
“Such a lovely cottage in a beautiful, peaceful part of dartmoor.”
It is well equipped, has a lovely relaxing vibe, and is in a gorgeous little valley with beautiful walks from the door. We've been before and will certainly come back again
“The cottage was very well equipped, stylish and comfortable.”
There were some welcome goodies on arrival which is always a nice touch. The location was perfect - tucked down a little moorland lane in our favourite area and we were able to walk up the lane and on straight on to the moor. Very pretty and spacious garden which was private but as there were neighbours we didn't feel isolated.
“We have stayed at Hayloft a number of times and always have a fantastic holiday based there.”
It's a lovely, peaceful spot in the heart of Dartmoor, with lots of places to visit easily accessible. We will definitely return again.
“The cottage was great, just as we expected, very clean and with all the facilities we needed, we even managed to host an extended family meal for 9!”
Lovely to be able to walk from the cottage and leave the car behind, a walk to Widecombe for coffee one day then another walk to the Warren House Inn for lunch another. Would stay there again, thanks.
In Lower Cator, beside a very quiet lane, with the occasional passing tractor, a relaxing 'upside down' cottage, one of two converted from a big barn.
Outside, large, mown-grass enclosed garden and patio (table/chairs).
Large and lovely open-plan living/dining/kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, larder fridge, electric Aga) with scissor-beam ceiling, granite worktops, woodburner, TV/DVD, iPod dock and glazed doors (the original hayloft opening) to sunny patio.
Downstairs, good-sized lobby (washing machine, table-top freezer), space for coats/boots and three bedrooms - a double with en suite shower-room, a room with two singles (3 steps, 5'9" beam, limited clothes-hanging space), and a single.
One small dog permitted from 1 September to 1 May.
A truly beautiful location in the heart of the southern moor. Lower Cator: hamlet in a hill-farmed valley in the middle of Dartmoor, so brilliantly placed for moor exploring and cycling.
Widecombe-in-the-Moor, the River Dart (lovely moorland walk via tors) and Dartmeet, 2 miles.
Ashburton (nearest town), about 7 miles, the sea at Torbay, 19.
