    • “Fantastic cottage close to the sea”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “This is a fabulous place (though see my advice at the end). A lovely cottage tucked away down a quiet lane. It has been fully restored with all the mod-cons. On arrival it was spotlessly clean – so much so it looked new! A small welcome pack of bread, eggs, butter, wine was a lovely touch. It has an excellent kitchen with all that you need; induction hob, dishwasher, washer-dryer washing machine etc all top quality. Lovely, large master bedroom and small and charming double bunkroom for kids. Come as a couple and use this for storage I suggest. The bathroom is excellent, clean and bright with a large shower/bath. There is a delightfully nautically themed seating at the rear outside too, but more of a summer thing of course. There are lots of local interest books on the shelves and board games too. We liked the ‘tide times’ clock, which we found really useful once set correctly. The place has under-floor heating, which is all you need to keep it warm with the staircase door open to let some heat upstairs. There is no phone signal (perhaps a bonus – or walk down to the beach to get it) but there is wifi and a landline with an honesty box. So some advice… This place is down some really narrow lanes so be sure of your driving/reversing skills. Don’t think of relying on a satnav. Get the OL20 OS map and use that. Come to the place from below i.e. North Hallsands, as the road down to it is so narrow. Getting anywhere with the tiny lanes will take ages so be prepared to do short outings: local beach, Torcross, Beesands, Start Lighthouse, or stay in/walk etc. Perhaps Salcombe on the tiny boat that takes passengers across the river. Those with limited mobility will find it hard to get up to as it has small and steep entrance steps. There is one parking space, which is larger than it looks, but if you come in two cars park one at North Hallsands and walk back to the cottage. Shame there appears to be no recycling but perhaps the commercial is sorted. All in all this is a fabulous place. We just loved it!”

    • “This cottage is fantastic. Very cosy and comfortable but with all mod cons. The caretaker is very helpful too.”

    Ms Wilde, LONDON, December 2018

    • “Really impressed by the standard of this cottage, well furnished, comfortable and a really practical kitchen. The bathroom was very well finished. The only downside was the access lane. The alternative route down Muckwell Hill was much better, if slightly longer and should be promoted as the first choice route for new arrivals ***Owner Response*** Thank you very much for your helpful comments. We have now amended the directions to Seacombe as suggested.”

Mr Williams, Chipping Norton, November 2018

    • “Great holiday clear and honest descriptions of cottage and area”

    Mr Biggins, Evesham, November 2018

    • “The cottage was so close to the sea we could just saunter down and sky watch at a moments notice. Fantastic October moon rises.Inside it was beautifully decorated and accessorised, fantastically equipped kitchen .The wood burner made for cosy evenings but the cottage was warm and cosy without needing to light it. Our two minor queries were addressed promptly by the caretaker. We will return.”

    Mr Badley, Gloucester, October 2018

    • “We thought that the cottage was very cosy and tastefully decorated. Everything was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well equipped, there were books, games and DVDs which made the cottage feel homely, and a welcome gift was a nice touch. We found the local recommendations provided by the hosts very useful. We loved the tranquil location very close to the beach and coastal walks. A great place for a relaxing stay!”

    Mr Rodak-merry, September 2018

    • “The cottage was beautifully maintained with outstanding facilities. The interior was clean and well maintained with classy and high quality fixtures and fittings, and the view from the back terrace was exceptional. The surrounding area was serene and was an ideal base to explore the beautiful South Devon coastline. An outstanding place to stay that I would unreservedly recommend.”

    Mr Butlin, September 2018

    • “The cottage was delightful and everything was provided to make our stay wonderful. The welcome pack was and unexpected gift when we arrived and the cottage was comfortable and very well kitted our. We loved the terrace with a view of the sea and the stars. Thank you for helping us have a wonderful holiday. Just to make others aware the roads were very narrow getting to Bickerton and with a bigger car it was a bit hair raising at times, but still worth it!”

    Mr Kercher, ALTON, August 2018

    • “It made us appreciate the silence of real life, it was so peaceful”

    Mr Taylor, Eye, June 2018

    • “Lovely cottage, well eqipped warm, and very comfortable. Lovely walks over the cliffs and very close to the beach. We had a relaxing week and would definitely go back again and recommend to our friends.”

Mrs Sherwin, East Grinstead, April 2018

Regional Information

HALLSANDS Start Point 1.5 miles; Beesands 3 miles; East Portlemouth 5.5 miles; Kingsbridge 8 miles. Hallsands is a small village near Start Point, one of the most southerly points on Devon’s coastline, near Salcombe in the beautiful South Hams area. The sheltered South Hams Peninsula is in 'deepest Devon', a pastoral landscape of flowering hedgerows and ancient sunken lanes, carved into by the richly wooded Avon and Dart Valleys. This quiet fishing village, with its dog-friendly, unspoilt beach, is situated next to the historic ‘old village’ of South Hallsands, just three miles from the popular Beesands Beach which has its own gastro pub and shop. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is decorated with white, pink and ochre thatched cottages, picturesque fishing ports such as Dartmouth, and is renowned for its stunning coastline, popular with yachting enthusiasts. Much of the clifftop land has been acquired by the National Trust, a haven for bird watchers and walkers who take advantage of the South West Coast Path, peppered with perfect picnic spots. Nearby, uncover the beauty of Blackpool Sands and Torcross, a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced; explore the nature reserve at Slapton Ley, and stroll along Slapton Beach, feeling the soft sand between your toes. Park at East Portlemouth and catch the ferry across to the beautiful seaside town of Salcombe with its renowned estuary, or visit the Start Point Lighthouse, less than a mile away. Hallsands is a wonderful base for uncovering the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the South Hams, all year round.
