“The cottage was immaculate, it was tastefully furnished and equipped with everything that we needed for a really comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable week in South Devon.”
We wouldn't hesitate to go back.
We wouldn't hesitate to go back.
“We had an exceptional week in Devon despite the weather being sour, our accommodation was the best.”
We look forward to getting back to Devon soon
“I cannot praise Seacombe cottage enough but will try and describe our experience as succinct as possible.”
The location, to begin with, is as picturesque as you can get, nestled in between a few similar cottages with a working farm across the road, a 5-minute walk takes you to Hallsands beach with its lovely cliff walk. The location to sum it up is as tranquil as you can get but yet close to wonderful restaurants, beaches, villages and Kingbridge for shopping. The cottage itself is quite cosy and comfortable and cleaned to a very high standard and with all needed facilities, i.e., electric cooker, fridge, wash/dry machine, with plenty of utensils, pots and pans, etc. The bedrooms, bathroom were clean, comfortable and functional. The small deck garden was perfect for morning coffee and a bit of sun worshipping including a view of the sea, priceless. We were welcomed with a lovely touch by the host who supplied us with some provision, eggs, bread, butter and a bottle of wine. We love our stay so much, especially our granddaughter that we try to extend our stay, but, unfortunately, it was prebooked. We recommend this lovely cottage to all and sundry and we hope to be back in the near future for another adventure in Devon and our stay in Seacombe Cottage...
“We have stayed at Seacombe a few times before and it’s just perfect in every possible way.”
“We absolutely loved this little cottage.”
The position was so peaceful - going to bed with the sounds of owls hooting at night . Brilliant walks and scenery on your doorstep. The cottage itself was so well equipped and really tastefully decorated throughout. A thoughtful welcome parcel awaited us on arrival. We will be back!
“Although the details of the cottage mentioned the parking space was some yards distance away, it failed to say it was up a steep incline.”
I have a lung disease and it was quite an effort for me to get up to the cottage. The downstairs area was quite dark and a bit depressing even on sunny days. There was a lot of unnecessary equipment in the kitchen area leaving no room to put groceries away so they took up some of the limited space on the worktop. We did have great weather though!
Thank you very much for your feedback. We always appreciate to hear guests thoughts. We always endeavor to improve. We are sorry to hear that your illness makes it difficult for you to walk hills. However, the South Hams is a very hilly area and unfortunately the 50 yards incline from the parking space is unavoidable. We will endeavour to make this clearer in the description for future guests. With regard to the kitchen equipment, we try to cater for a full range of cooks including those who need a good variety of kitchen utensils. We have provided a very large freestanding fridge to give as much room as possible for food storage but we will take another look at the organisation of the cupboards to maximise the space. Despite this we hope you enjoyed your visit to the area and that you had a good holiday. Owner relations
“This is a beautifully equipped cottage near some great coastal walking.”
There are some very narrow lanes to negotiate but the scenery and quite make it worthwhile. There is also a great pub (Cricket Inn) at Beesands.
“This cottage is fantastic.”
Very cosy and comfortable but with all mod cons. The caretaker is very helpful too.
“Great holiday clear and honest descriptions of cottage and area”
“Fantastic cottage close to the sea”
This is a fabulous place (though see my advice at the end). A lovely cottage tucked away down a quiet lane. It has been fully restored with all the mod-cons. On arrival it was spotlessly clean – so much so it looked new! A small welcome pack of bread, eggs, butter, wine was a lovely touch. It has an excellent kitchen with all that you need; induction hob, dishwasher, washer-dryer washing machine etc all top quality. Lovely, large master bedroom and small and charming double bunkroom for kids. Come as a couple and use this for storage I suggest. The bathroom is excellent, clean and bright with a large shower/bath. There is a delightfully nautically themed seating at the rear outside too, but more of a summer thing of course. There are lots of local interest books on the shelves and board games too. We liked the ‘tide times’ clock, which we found really useful once set correctly. The place has under-floor heating, which is all you need to keep it warm with the staircase door open to let some heat upstairs. There is no phone signal (perhaps a bonus – or walk down to the beach to get it) but there is wifi and a landline with an honesty box. So some advice… This place is down some really narrow lanes so be sure of your driving/reversing skills. Don’t think of relying on a satnav. Get the OL20 OS map and use that. Come to the place from below i.e. North Hallsands, as the road down to it is so narrow. Getting anywhere with the tiny lanes will take ages so be prepared to do short outings: local beach, Torcross, Beesands, Start Lighthouse, or stay in/walk etc. Perhaps Salcombe on the tiny boat that takes passengers across the river. Those with limited mobility will find it hard to get up to as it has small and steep entrance steps. There is one parking space, which is larger than it looks, but if you come in two cars park one at North Hallsands and walk back to the cottage. Shame there appears to be no recycling but perhaps the commercial is sorted. All in all this is a fabulous place. We just loved it!
“Really impressed by the standard of this cottage, well furnished, comfortable and a really practical kitchen.”
The bathroom was very well finished. The only downside was the access lane. The alternative route down Muckwell Hill was much better, if slightly longer and should be promoted as the first choice route for new arrivals ***Owner Response*** Thank you very much for your helpful comments. We have now amended the directions to Seacombe as suggested.
“The cottage was so close to the sea we could just saunter down and sky watch at a moments notice.”
Fantastic October moon rises.Inside it was beautifully decorated and accessorised, fantastically equipped kitchen .The wood burner made for cosy evenings but the cottage was warm and cosy without needing to light it. Our two minor queries were addressed promptly by the caretaker. We will return.
“We thought that the cottage was very cosy and tastefully decorated.”
Everything was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well equipped, there were books, games and DVDs which made the cottage feel homely, and a welcome gift was a nice touch. We found the local recommendations provided by the hosts very useful. We loved the tranquil location very close to the beach and coastal walks. A great place for a relaxing stay!
“The cottage was beautifully maintained with outstanding facilities.”
The interior was clean and well maintained with classy and high quality fixtures and fittings, and the view from the back terrace was exceptional. The surrounding area was serene and was an ideal base to explore the beautiful South Devon coastline. An outstanding place to stay that I would unreservedly recommend.
“The cottage was delightful and everything was provided to make our stay wonderful.”
The welcome pack was and unexpected gift when we arrived and the cottage was comfortable and very well kitted our. We loved the terrace with a view of the sea and the stars. Thank you for helping us have a wonderful holiday. Just to make others aware the roads were very narrow getting to Bickerton and with a bigger car it was a bit hair raising at times, but still worth it!
“It made us appreciate the silence of real life, it was so peaceful”
“Lovely cottage, well eqipped warm, and very comfortable.”
Lovely walks over the cliffs and very close to the beach. We had a relaxing week and would definitely go back again and recommend to our friends.
400 yards from the wide, fine pebbly beach of Hallsands and the Coast Path, a totally transformed Victorian cottage tucked between two neighbours in the tiny hamlet of Bickerton - wonderfully tranquil and sheltered by flower-filled hedgerows, where migratory toads have their own road sign!
This traditional cottage has just been renovated to provide smart, modern comfort, combined with a little bit of quirky 19th cent.
At the back, a decked terrace (table/chairs) with lovely long views to the sea.Four steps up from the lane to stable doors into open-plan living/dining/kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric oven/induction hob) with slate floor, woodburner and TV/DVD/Blu-ray.
Door to stairs (stairgate) up to two bedrooms - a double, and a bunk room with standard size single beds.
(TV/DVD) with stable doors to terrace; bathroom (suite, shower over bath).
Parking bay, 50 yards.
A brilliant cottage for beach enthusiasts and walkers. Hallsands: once a thriving fishing community, famously swept away one stormy night in 1917.
Now a few dwellings and a gem of a sandy cove, right on the stunning Coast Path in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; 1 mile coastal walk to excellent pub at Beesands.

About the location
Start Point 1.5 miles; Beesands 3 miles; East Portlemouth 5.5 miles; Kingsbridge 8 miles.
Hallsands is a small village near Start Point, one of the most southerly points on Devon’s coastline, near Salcombe in the beautiful South Hams area. The sheltered South Hams Peninsula is in 'deepest Devon', a pastoral landscape of flowering hedgerows and ancient sunken lanes, carved into by the richly wooded Avon and Dart Valleys. This quiet fishing village, with its dog-friendly, unspoilt beach, is situated next to the historic ‘old village’ of South Hallsands, just three miles from the popular Beesands Beach which has its own gastro pub and shop. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is decorated with white, pink and ochre thatched cottages, picturesque fishing ports such as Dartmouth, and is renowned for its stunning coastline, popular with yachting enthusiasts. Much of the clifftop land has been acquired by the National Trust, a haven for bird watchers and walkers who take advantage of the South West Coast Path, peppered with perfect picnic spots. Nearby, uncover the beauty of Blackpool Sands and Torcross, a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced; explore the nature reserve at Slapton Ley, and stroll along Slapton Beach, feeling the soft sand between your toes. Park at East Portlemouth and catch the ferry across to the beautiful seaside town of Salcombe with its renowned estuary, or visit the Start Point Lighthouse, less than a mile away. Hallsands is a wonderful base for uncovering the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the South Hams, all year round.
