    “Lovely cottage, although my wife is disabled and had great difficulty getting up and down the large step from lounge to bedroom.”

The Byre, a semi-detached picturesque cottage in Devon, is located in the village of Monkleigh near Great Torrington.

This cottage is overflowing with character and invites two guests to explore a fantastic region of Devon; you'll be surrounded by rolling countryside, with easy access to the seaside, and enjoying a beautifully remodelled interior.

When you arrive, park in the off-road space and take in your relaxing surroundings to start your staycation.

The open-plan living space greets you with a high vaulted ceiling, exposed wooden beams, and homely touches such as artwork, lamps, and vintage furnishings.

The electric oven and stove, as well as the washing machine and slimline dishwasher provide superb utilities for making a home-cooked meal for your other half.

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast for two at the breakfast bar while planning your travels.When you return, you'll find a relaxing sitting area with cushioned sofas, an armchair, and a Smart TV to unwind with your favourite movie.

Take a break from the kitchen and visit the nearby Bell Inn, a traditional pub serving classic fare, while Great Torrington, a small market town, is only a short drive away; stock up at the local supermarket, dine at the Torridge Inn, or pack your clubs for a game at Great Torrington Common Golf Course.

RHS Garden Rosemoor, complete with a café and tearoom, is a must-see in the area, especially during the summer months when the flowers are in full bloom.

Continue on to Halsdon Nature Reserve for romantic strolls through unspoiled country and woodland along the River Torridge, but for a livelier day ahead, take a short drive up to Bideford.

The BIG Sheep family amusement park, Chudleigh Fort, and The Burton at Bideford Art Gallery and Museum are just a few of the attractions available!

Beachcombers will find Westward Ho! a short distance away, as well as Northam Burrows Country Park and magnificent coastal walks leading to Abbotsham Cliffs, which overlook the glittering sea.

There's plenty to see along the Hartland Devon Heritage Coast, including the famed Blackchurch Rock and the Clovelly Waterfall, which is conveniently located close the ancient fishing village of Clovelly.

Great Torrington is an unspoilt town built on high ground above the River Torridge, and is a fifteen-minute drive from the spectacular North Devon coast at Westward Ho!. A leading tourist attraction is Dartington Crystal where visitors can see craftsmen blowing and shaping glass, follow the history of glassmaking and buy some beautiful pieces. The town has a good selection of individual shops, a friendly atmosphere, and some good inns. About a mile from Great Torrington is the spectacular RHS garden at Rosemoor, splendid with colourful roses in summer and in a breathtaking setting by the River Torridge.
