  • Mr Westrip

“Excellent cottage with very good pre visit information and detail from the owner prior our visit.”

The cottage is secluded but well situated with around 20 minutes walk down a walking track to the village where there is the harbour, pub, and hotel as well as other places to eat. The beach is large rocks rather than sand so good shoes are needed.

The property

A mile from Porlock Weir and 2 miles from Porlock, with stunning views over Porlock Bay and the Bristol Channel, a semi-detached cottage converted from stables at the end of a no-through lane, once part of the Ashley Combe mansion built for Lord Byron’s daughter.

The coastal footpath hidden behind the cottage leads through woodland, past former garden terraces and under old tunnels once connected to the main house.

A private path leads in 150 yards to the pebble shoreline and sea beyond.

The perfect location for walkers, nature lovers and silence seekers.

Lawned terraces to the side and rear, steep in places.

Opposite the cottage, large enclosed garden (table/chairs) with a stream.

Inside, gentle colours and fabrics, designed for relaxation.

Slate-tiled hall (loo); utility room (washing machine).

To one side, large living/dining room (open fire, TV/DVD) with wood floor and French windows to courtyard and garden.

To the other, kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with breakfast table.

Upstairs, three bedrooms, all with lovely sea views over Porlock Weir - two double (5' beds), one with en suite shower-room (suite), and a twin; bathroom (suite, shower over bath).

Dogs permitted in hall and kitchen only.

Spring water.

A wonderful, timeless place with some of Exmoor’s best walks immediately from the door. Porlock Weir: pretty hamlet (restaurant, pub, shops) around a tiny, ancient harbour and pebble beach, 1½ miles west of Porlock.

England’s smallest church at Culbone is 1 mile away, and all around Exmoor’s oak woods and heather hills - wonderful for walkers.
