“Very lovely cottage for a relaxing holiday.”

We especially liked the picnic table where we enjoyed the wide view across to the hills. Sandra gave us advice on how to find the Meldon Viaduct on the Granite Way, after our own efforts failed! Okehampton was a central base for us, as we wanted to visit family members in the Exeter area, Totnes and Yelverton. Okehampton is a great town. We were impressed that it had a music shop. It can be found in the Arcade.

Convenient, comfortable and central for beaches and moor. Okehampton: town (shops, restaurants, pubs, cinema, leisure centre, park, castle ruins) in the foothills of Dartmoor’s tors and heather slopes.

About the location

OKEHAMPTON

Exeter 23 miles.

Okehampton is a busy market town on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and near the highest and most dramatic areas of the moor, where Yes Tor rises to a height above 2000 feet. To the north of Okehampton are some beautiful rolling Devon hills where small farming villages nestle amidst woods and fields with plenty of gently flowing rivers. The fabulous Roadford Reservoir offers a multitude of watersport activities and fishing opportunities. Okehampton has a prominent medieval castle overlooking a wooded river valley, the Museum of Dartmoor Life (where Tourist Information can be found) and Okehampton train station, which has been restored to its 1950s glory running trains along a scenic route to Meldon the highest station in southern England. The town also has spectacular views across Dartmoor, access to fabulous walks and Simmons Park where you’ll find a children’s adventure playground. This area of Devon has plenty of farm shops and country inns serving good food where visitors can spend time relaxing and unwinding amongst unspoilt countryside.
