    We enjoyed our short stay. Our only 'gripe' is the description and photograph of the patio and shared garden is slightly misleading. We took our dog and picked this cottage because it suggested there was an outside area. However there is no patio outside the cottage and the shared area is also away from the cottage. In the photo this area looks quite contained whereas it is in fact open onto a car park. If not having an outside area doesn't bother you, then I would heartily recommend this place.

The property

Brackenmoor is situated in a peaceful mews style courtyard in the centre of Sticklepath village within the Dartmoor National Park.

The village has two pubs, a village shop and cafe, direct access to wonderful walking at Skaigh woods, straight on to Dartmoor and the National Trust Finch Foundry Museum with tea room.

The property has recently been completely refurbished to provide a luxurious base for even the most discerning holiday maker and it's been a complete labour of love. Furnished with many treasured artefacts from the owners' travels to the Middle East, Africa and Egypt, the character of the spacious open-plan ground floor has been optimised by exposing natural timber and granite walls with the addition of oak and delabole slate floors.

The split level sitting/dining room has a wood-burning stove and leads into the kitchen with new 5 ring ceramic hob, double oven, slimline dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer.

A tasteful use of colour has created a rustic-chic style with complete comfort and easy living in mind. On the first floor there is plenty of natural light with a galleried landing displaying artwork for sale by a local artist Kari McGowan.

Leading off the landing, two beautifully presented en-suite bedrooms of a modern/contemporary style with power showers and Egyptian linen have been designed with complete calm and relaxation in mind, to ensure a good nights sleep. Outside there is a pretty little garden with seat ideal for a cuppa whilst watching the world go by and a larger well maintained communal garden with private seating areas suitable for a BBQ.

Guests also have a private parking space around the back of the pretty courtyard. Whether it's summer and you want to enjoy the great outdoors or heart of winter and you just want to snuggle up in front of the wood-burning stove and watch a good movie or simply head to the pub, this place is the perfect country pad! Front door to hall.

An superb base for exploring Dartmoor and beyond or simply relaxing in a traditional Dartmoor village. Sticklepath: popular village (two beautiful old pubs, PO/shop) in a valley on Dartmoor's northern edge, neighbouring South Zeal, Belstone and South Tawton.

Superb walks on the moor's highest part within 1 mile or so.

Okehampton (golf, leisure centre, cinema), 5 miles; Exeter, 20; sea/sandy beaches at Teignmouth 23 miles, or Bude, 36 (fast roads).

Encompassed by superb countryside, the surrounding area is a haven for nature lovers, walkers and bird watchers alike, while the nearby town of Okehampton boasts the remains of a fine Norman castle which dominates sleepy River Okement.
