The Property

The Wood is a huge, handsome, detached house, set high looking over South Sands. It has the most sensational views along the estuary and stands in 1½ acres of steep, mature wooded garden (small pond). Numerous shallow steps lead down through the garden to a private footpath and the beach (100 steep yards away). Around the house and in the gardens there are several flat sunbathing areas and a lovely mixture of neat flowering shrubs and wildness. A private lane leads to the house and parking area/garage and from there, 17 steps down to front door. Elegant hall with stairs down to large and beautiful open-plan kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, large fridge-freezer plus drinks fridge, oil-fired Aga plus electric oven/induction hob) with granite worktops, dining table comfortably seating 12 and doors to large, enclosed deck (table/chairs, sun loungers, cushions) with fabulous views; double doors to living room which is split-level (3 steps) with TV/Sky/DVD/PVR, open fire, comfy seating for 12 and estuary views. At the back of the house, a twin bedroom, a showering/wetsuit drying room with huge shower, sink and loo and a utility room with washing machine and tumble drier.Stairs up to five more bedrooms, all with stunning sea views: - the master double with 6' four-poster bed, 2 steps down to en suite bathroom (suite with separate shower) and balcony- double (5' bed) with en suite bathroom (suite with separate shower)- double (5' bed) with en suite shower-room (suite)- twin- single (limited clothes-hanging space)Bathroom (suite plus hand-shower). Salcombe: one of the most beautifully sited small towns in Britain, at the mouth of the Kingsbridge estuary, a yacht haven with creeks, sandy bays. Waterside pubs, nice shops. Boats to hire, fishing, superb Nat. Trust cliff walks/gardens; museum, tennis, outdoor swimming pool (in summer); pedestrian ferry to East Portlemouth (lovely beaches, The Venus Café and Takeaway). Thurlestone and Bigbury (golf), 6 and 8 miles.

Regional Information

SALCOMBE Kingsbridge 7 miles; Dartmouth 21 miles; Plymouth 24 miles; Paignton 26 miles. Salcombe is a popular destination for walkers and families looking for a holiday by the sea and was once a major port. There are two pretty beaches within a short distance, North Sands and South Sands and further on is the National Trust property Overbeck’s where you can wander through the subtropical gardens. Why not have a more adventurous day and try out the watersports available on the estuary including surfing, kayaking or a more leisurely boat trip? Whilst staying in Salcombe you must take advantage of the locally sourced seafood which is served in many of the restaurants, pubs, cafés and delicatessens. The southern tip of Devon provides some spectacular scenery and picturesque vistas with a number of sandy beaches, lovely villages with thatched cottages and some fantastic opportunities for walking, including the South West Coast path.
