“This was our 7th holiday with HH and our 3rd visit to this barn.”

This visit was a gift to my wife who asked to go back again for her birthday. This says alot about this barn and location, which is perfect for the local pub and exploring the devon coutryside plus coast line. The owners live next to the barn and are available if you have any questions or problems. I am sure this wont be our last visit to this barn, which is kitted out fully for a great self catering family holiday.

The property

On the edge of Sampford Courtenay, at the end of a private track shared with the owners’ thatched farmhouse, a beautiful and stylish home.

Carefully and lovingly created from a former barn, it is now a wonderful space for families and friends to relax.

From the main drive, your own gravelled stretch swings up to planted terraces and good-sized lawn.

To one side of the cottage, a peaceful terrace (table/chairs) with views over the village and surrounding countryside.

Four steps up to beautiful open-plan living/dining/kitchen (TV), all in muted tones, with woodburner at one end and kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, range-style cooker with induction hob) at the other.

Double bedroom (5' bed with footboard) with TV and smart en suite shower-room (suite).

Stairs lead down, beyond the original swede-shute, to two more bedrooms (TVs) - a double (footboard) with en suite shower-room (suite), and a large family room with a double (5' bed with footboard) abd twin beds (footboards).

Smart bathroom (suite with separate shower).

Utility room with washing machine and sink.

A well-thought-out modern place to stay in beautiful countryside and within easy reach of both the moor and the coast. Sampford Courtenay: one of the prettiest villages in the middle of Devon with lots of thatched cottages, masses of flowers, fine church and good food pub.

Coarse fishing, 1½ miles.

Dartmoor and Okehampton (small town, golf, tennis, indoor swimming pool, cinema), 6 miles.

Exeter, about 20, the sea (Bude, splendid beaches), 28.

About the location

Okehampton 2.5 miles.

Midway between Sampford Courtenay, a sleepy but picturesque Devon village, and Okehampton, a thriving community known as ‘the gateway to the moor’. The whole area is a country lover’s dream. The high tors of northern Dartmoor dominate the scenery and provide a splendid backdrop to Okehampton nestling in a valley where tumbling moorland rivers join before heading to the sea. For miles around, the area is famous for its country pubs that between them provide welcome rest after a day exploring the paths, cycle ways and stunning countryside. On a clear day the view from the top of High Willhays (the highest point south of the Pennines) will take your breath away. Country pursuits and crafts are a way of life and a trip to the Dartmoor Visitor Centre and country museum in Okehampton are musts. Look also at the pretty moorland villages of Chagford, Belstone and Sticklepath to savour a way of life that’s becoming increasingly rare.
