“Cullaford Cottage is a delightful historic cottage that has been thoughtfully extended to provide beautiful accommodation.”

It is simply furnished and well equipped by the owners. Although we had terrible weather we nevertheless enjoyed our stay reading and enjoying the garden and scenery. The cottage owns a small wood and stream nearby that our dog enjoyed. The cottage is deep in the heart of beautiful Devon countryside and there are many places to visit - we particularly enjoyed the quaintness of Ashburton. We will certainly stay again,

The property

½ mile from Scorriton, in the tiny hamlet of Combe through which the River Mardle meanders to the beautiful, bouldered River Dart, a stunning detached cottage, once home to the author Mary Wesley and a haven from the modern world.

Across the little used single-track lane, a small enclosed orchard (picnic bench) and, beyond, a bluebell wood (deer, kingfishers) with the river on one side.

Behind the cottage, an enclosed lawned garden plus cobbled/paved terrace (table/chairs).

Inside, simple and elegant with pale wood and stone floors, soothing white palette and original art.

Step up from garden into magnificent oak-framed kitchen/dining room, fully glazed on two sides with the sleek kitchen (dishwasher, larder fridge, electric cooker) along the length.

Eight shallow steps down to snug living room (TV/DVD/Blu-ray) with woodburner.

Second living room with chaise longue and woodburner, a space for reading/writing.

Utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, American-style fridge-freezer, sink) and bathroom (suite, hipbath plus hand-shower).

Upstairs (some low lintels), two bedrooms, simply furnished - an airy double (6' bed) with pitched ceiling, views over the garden and shower-room (suite) up 7 steps, and a twin tucked under the eaves, plus smart bathroom (suite with separate shower).

Arrival after 5pm.
