The furnishings were comfortable and of a high standard. There were many little extras that made the week's stay in a self catering property a good experience, such as plenty of nice towels, supplies of tea, coffee. We appreciated the Devon cream and scones that awaited us. It's a lovely peaceful place to stay whilst being in the centre of the town with easy access to shops, pubs and the little ferry to Shaldon which meant that we could manage very well without the car. The only slight difficulty was in accessing the property to unload our bags, as it is necessary to reverse down a narrow lane from another very narrow road. This was a minor stressful manoeuvre that was worth the trouble to stay in such a lovely property.

The property

In Teignmouth, right on the river beach with time-wasting, ever-changing estuary views up the Teign estuary towards Dartmoor, across to pretty Shaldon and to the port, a carefully refurbished end-of-terrace cottage.

The location is stunning: a true toes-in-the-water fisherman’s cottage right in the hub of boaty Teignmouth.

Convenient for pier, shops, beaches; children’s play area, 150 yards; promenade skate park, 175 yards; ferry to Shaldon, 100 yards; train station, less than a mile.

Visitor mooring pontoons opposite (arranged via harbour master, extra). Two steps up to front door.

Big, light, open-plan living/dining/kitchen with beams, slate floor, flame-effect electric fire, smart TV/Sky/DVD/Blu-ray/PVR, iPod dock and those views (bring binoculars); smart kitchen area (slimline dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer, 5-ring gas hob/electric oven) with French windows to small terrace (table/chairs).

Loo with space for coats/boots.

Upstairs (stairgate), two bedrooms - a double (5' bed, limited clothes-hanging space) with uninterrupted water views from bed, and a twin (truckle, zip-linkable to 6' double) with endlessly interesting views from a bay window.

Smart, compact bathroom (suite, shower over bath).

Loading/unloading immediately outside; public car park, 150 yards (flat walk, permit provided).

Damages Deposit £250.

No children under 8, except pre-crawling babies, due to waterside location.

A wonderful place. Teignmouth: small resort/port in a wonderful position at the mouth of the River Teign estuary, beneath the Haldon Hills.

Sandy beach, Victorian pier, promenade, amusements, play park, skate park, tennis, crazy golf, shops, theatre, railway.

Nice pubs beside the estuary and harbour (August Bank Holiday music festival).

Good golf; windsurfing and birdwatching.

Torquay, 6 miles.

Across the river (road bridge) is Shaldon.
