“Stunning location, apartment perfect with added extras from the owner which was very much appreciated.”
Beautiful to watch the sunset and tide coming in and out. Very peaceful just what we needed to charge our batteries.

Would be good to know exactly what is at the apartment ie wind break etc. It would have saved us bringing ours!- Ms Hall, August 2020
This apartment is wonderful. Such a warm welcome with special little touches. View is so beautiful, u can see Burgh island and the sunset clearly. It was our dogs first holiday and he enjoyed it as much as we did! He loved sitting on the balcony watching the birds beach and sea! We couldnt have asked for a more perfect first holiday for him and the owners made this possible! The apartment is so cosy- nice little touches to make you feel at home books- dressing gowns, wine chocolates scones flowers we couldnt believe it!- an amazing tv which was great for us because we love settling down in the evenings to watch a film.Beds so comfy showers soo nice! “Worth it for the view alone”
Having spent some 30 years travelling to France to get away from rip off Britain and used to paying around £450 a week for a lovely three bedroomed gite my wife wanted to visit Devon for two weeks and put her feet up instead of driving large distances from Norfolk. On arriving there was a box of chocolates and a bottle of fizzy and the rooms were clean with an amazing modern shower room plus all the modern gadgets in the apartment and fresh flowers in the rooms. My son found his room very comfortable and our bed was slightly on the soft side but no problem for the two weeks we stayed there. My wife settled down and was busy reading her books looking across the sea to the island and teenage son joined the local surfboard classes just a few hundred feet away. I came down later and had fun parking my motorcycle as Chelsea Tractors were parking so close I could not get to the centre stand to move the bike on the left hand side. Tried moving it into a corner by the covered garaging for Island tourists but again blocked in . Very annoying when you want to ride off and tour Dartmoor. The staff running the apartments were very helpful and courteous, the pool was clean and perfect for children when the weather was bad. The restaurant just up the hill served some delicious cod in the evening but book early in the peak summer period to get in. A great place to stay for visiting the local NT's around the area but beware of the congestion every day getting to Bigbury down the narrow lanes in the summer holidays. We would leave early before the surfers started to come in and return late in the evening when most of the day trippers went back. The only thing that annoyed us was every time you went past the bathroom the PIR sensor turned on the bathroom lights and the extractor fan. Wanted to get out my wire cutters? A great place to stay but at English prices we will properly visit Europe again. We did get a good deal for two weeks through Helpful Holidays who were the best booking company I have come across in many years. Brilliant company who will run around for you. We did meet the owners who brought in fresh towels after the first week and do live locally so that you can get help if needed. So a lovely 5 star apartment with a fantastic view but you will pay for this luxury.- Prassky, September 2014
Thank you very much for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback about your stay. It sounds as though you had a wonderful time. The Burgh Island area really is beautiful, and the wealth of things to do can mean that the roads can indeed get a little busier than normal at peak times in the summer holidays, but I'm glad this didn't spoil your trip. Whether you choose to return to Bigbury, or jet off to new adventures, I hope your next holiday is just as successful. Owner relations
Just 20 yards from Bigbury-on-Sea's big and splendid sandy beach, looking to Burgh Island Causeway, are 29 stunning, high quality apartments, of which we let 13.
Within the same building are excellent leisure facilities and a restaurant.
The views over the sea to the south and west, and at low tide of a vast expanse of smooth washed yellow sand reaching to Burgh Island, are outstanding.
The island's jolly pub, The Pilchard, is fun to visit (long-legged sea tractor at high tide). All the apartments, which are privately owned and individually furnished, have those sensational views, and are wonderfully light, with large, airy open-plan living/dining/kitchens and glazed doors to balconies or terraces.
The smallish bedrooms at the back (without views) have good quality en suite bath or shower-rooms.
The building is three-storey.
Most apartments have easy access (short walk from parking and between 5 and 9 steps down to the lift).
The ground floor (still high above the beach) apartments have big terraces, the first and top floor apartments have very good-sized balconies.
Arrival after 4pm.
The leisure facilities, which are free for guests to use and open from 10am every day, include a fine indoor swimming pool (40' x 20' x 4'6"), spa pool, well-equipped gym (treadmill, steps, cycles, Concept II Rower and other instruments of torture) and sauna (no children under 14 in gym or sauna).
There are changing rooms, a shower and disabled loo.
The Club restaurant/smart bar, is open 10am to 9pm during the High Season, reservations recommended (for all other times of the year, please contact the Leisure Centre for opening times) serves excellent food throughout the day, with a popular dinner menu which varies daily and themed evenings.
You can also order meals to take to your apartment.
The comfy lounging area has sofas and WiFi, and the sunny outdoor terrace faces the sea.
Top floor: excellent apartment, far end from Leisure Club: superb south and west views (great for sunsets); balcony (furniture).
Pale carpeted living/dining/stylish kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with glazed doors to balcony and smart TV/DVD.
Two bedrooms - double (5' bed) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath), and twin (truckle) with en suite shower-room (suite).
Sleeps 4, including babies. Bigbury-on-Sea: village (seasonal café) with south Devons biggest sandy beaches (The Venus Café, Takeaway and Surf School, seasonal beach shop), stretching to Burgh Island (The Pilchard pub; famous art deco hotel - you can walk to it at low tide, go by long-legged tractor at high; setting of Agatha Christie novels).
Good windsurfing; fine cliffs for walking and sea-bird watching.

About the location
Modbury 6 miles; Plymouth 12 miles.
Bigbury-on-Sea is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideal for family holidays. Dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, the beach offers safe fun for groups particularly if you’ve got children in tow. In addition, Bigbury-on-Sea beach is dotted with rock pools, so there’s plenty of entertainment for budding marine biologists. There’s also a wide and varied selection of watersports available to visitors who prefer their holidays to feature a little adrenaline rush. Windsurfing and kite-surfing are popular here, with hire facilities located right on the beach. To give you some peace of mind, there are lifeguards present at Bigbury-on-Sea beach during May to September and the beach also has a first-aid room. You can even take the dog onto the beach, although they are restricted to certain areas during the summer. Bigbury’s most famous landmark is Burgh Island, which overlooks the beach itself. The island is accessible at low tide, when the waters reveal a causeway that links it to the beach. However, when the tide is in you can still reach the island by hitching a ride on the popular and unique ‘sea tractor’. Burgh Island boasts an award-winning hotel, elegant and rather genteel, it’s an ideal romantic retreat for couples. Explore the South Devon coast with its fabulous sandy beaches and its breathtakingly beautiful coastal path or simply take time to visit some of the charming estuary towns and villages dotted throughout the area, such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. The city of Plymouth and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor are also both close at hand.
NOTE: Burgh Island Apartments have advised the pool, gym and leisure suite are to remain closed until further notice. This will be consistently reviewed and updated should the situation change.
Operating within Government guidelines, the bar and restaurant are open with limited tables and booking is advised. A takeaway service is also available. These, however may be subject to change.
Note: Leisure facilities open from 10am every day (except christmas day). Note: This property
