    • “We've stayed in these apartments 3 times but it was our 1st stay in apartment 8. The space & the terrace was perfect for our little ones. The views are perfect from every room. Beds are very comfy. No complaints at all. We would love to return in February but unfortunately there is no availability.”

Mr Whitehead Mbe, Nottingham, October 2018

    • “This flat was the best I've ever stayed! Really clean and really well furbished and all the utensils in the kitchen were really good quality. The flat has an amazing balcony and do its location being on the corner, it was nice and bright without being too hot. I went to my mother-in-law flat which was in the middle of the building but it was hot and stuffy. not this one! Would strongly recommend anyone to stay there! P.S.: they had a cake to welcome us in too, how lovely!”

    Mrs Quarrell, Hook, June 2018

    • “Very well equipped apartment to a very high standard - with wonderful views. To improve on it is a bit difficult but a few suggestions: (1) More bin liners for rubbish. (2) Could not find a grill mesh to grill bacon. (3) Sky Sports was off and on and I think this is due of the position of the place . But overall - Fantastic”

    Mr Reilly, Smethwick, June 2018

    • “The property location was truly fabulous, and the facilities were as described. We were lucky with the weather, and we enjoyed a lovely week. Some points to help future guests - The telly could do with a spare HDMI cable. We had to move the cable from the sky box to the DVD box each time. Second, the Wifi password could be put in the folder, which would help avoid rummaging around. The information folder should perhaps also mention the stock of games and DVDs available- we discovered on the last day that there was a healthy stock! The above points are to help rather than complain. Thanks for a memorable holiday”

    Dr Ambalavanan, Chester, March 2018

The Property

Just 20 yards from Bigbury-on-Sea's big and splendid sandy beach, looking to Burgh Island Causeway, are 29 stunning, high quality apartments, of which we let 13. Within the same building are excellent leisure facilities and a restaurant. The views over the sea to the south and west, and at low tide of a vast expanse of smooth washed yellow sand reaching to Burgh Island, are outstanding. The island's jolly pub, The Pilchard, is fun to visit (long-legged sea tractor at high tide).
All the apartments, which are privately owned and individually furnished, have those sensational views, and are wonderfully light, with large, airy open-plan living/dining/kitchens and glazed doors to balconies or terraces. The smallish bedrooms at the back (without views) have good quality en suite bath or shower-rooms.
The building is three-storey. Most apartments have easy access (short walk from parking and between 5 and 9 steps down to the lift). The ground floor (still high above the beach) apartments have big terraces, the first and top floor apartments have very good-sized balconies. Arrival after 4pm.
The leisure facilities, which are free for guests to use and open from 10am every day, include a fine indoor swimming pool (40' x 20' x 4'6"), spa pool, well-equipped gym (treadmill, steps, cycles, Concept II Rower and other instruments of torture) and sauna (no children under 14 in gym or sauna). There are changing rooms, a shower and disabled loo.
The Club restaurant/smart bar, is open 10am to 9pm during the High Season, reservations recommended (for all other times of the year, please contact the Leisure Centre for opening times), serves excellent food throughout the day, with a popular dinner menu which varies daily and themed evenings. You can also order meals to take to your apartment. The comfy lounging area has sofas and WiFi, and the sunny outdoor terrace faces the sea.
No 8. Exceptional - the best site of all. The ground-floor corner apartment with double aspect terrace three times the size of other ground-floor terraces: super views, table/chairs, loungers, gas barbecue. Inside, hardwood floors (rugs) in living areas; carpeted bedrooms. Furnished in oak; decorated in neutral colours with a smart seaside theme. Good-sized living/dining room (sofa bed, TV/Sky/DVD/Blu-ray/PVR, iPod dock) and Shaker-style kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker); glazed doors to terrace. Two bedrooms, both with sea views - double (5' bed) plus single bed with TV/DVD and en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath), and twin (iPod dock) with en suite shower-room (power-shower, suite, door to hall). Best for maximum of 4 adults.

Bigbury-on-Sea: village (seasonal café) with south Devon’s biggest sandy beaches (The Venus Café, Takeaway and Surf School, seasonal beach shop), stretching to Burgh Island (The Pilchard pub; famous art deco hotel - you can walk to it at low tide, go by long-legged tractor at high; setting of Agatha Christie novels). Good windsurfing; fine cliffs for walking and sea-bird watching. Golf, 1 mile. Nearest shop, 3 miles. Kingsbridge, 10 miles; Salcombe, 15.

Regional Information

BIGBURY-ON-SEA Modbury 6 miles; Plymouth 12 miles. Bigbury-on-Sea is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideal for family holidays. Dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, the beach offers safe fun for groups particularly if you’ve got children in tow. In addition, Bigbury-on-Sea beach is dotted with rock pools, so there’s plenty of entertainment for budding marine biologists. There’s also a wide and varied selection of watersports available to visitors who prefer their holidays to feature a little adrenaline rush. Windsurfing and kite-surfing are popular here, with hire facilities located right on the beach. To give you some peace of mind, there are lifeguards present at Bigbury-on-Sea beach during May to September and the beach also has a first-aid room. You can even take the dog onto the beach, although they are restricted to certain areas during the summer. Bigbury’s most famous landmark is Burgh Island, which overlooks the beach itself. The island is accessible at low tide, when the waters reveal a causeway that links it to the beach. However, when the tide is in you can still reach the island by hitching a ride on the popular and unique ‘sea tractor’. Burgh Island boasts an award-winning hotel, elegant and rather genteel, it’s an ideal romantic retreat for couples. Explore the South Devon coast with its fabulous sandy beaches and its breathtakingly beautiful coastal path or simply take time to visit some of the charming estuary towns and villages dotted throughout the area, such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. The city of Plymouth and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor are also both close at hand.
