Property was incredibly clean. Beautiful interior. One of the comfiest beds we have slept in. Loved that you could walk to a pub. Log burner was amazing. Just a few things that could be improved. Hot water was disappointing. There wasn’t enough hot water for one of you to have a bath followed by the other having a shower. You had to wait for it to heat back up. You expect continuous hot water in a holiday cottage. Would be helpful to provide a torch as it was a very dark walk to the pub (thank goodness for iPhone torches). Would also be helpful to have outside lighting in the back yard. There looks like there is lighting but couldn’t find a switch for it so presume it’s solar lit lights which didn’t work in winter (letting dog out at night would have been helpful to be able to see him). Appreciate need throughway out the back between the wicker fencing but gates in the gaps would be helpful so that dog would be safe in the yard without worrying he could escape into owners’s garden. All in all a lovely stay and we felt very at home. Would absolutely stay again.
- Claire, January 2022Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear you had a frustrating experience, but I really appreciate you bringing this issue to my attention. Your feedback helps us do better and to know what we need to work on. Property Owner

Norma “The outside space is poor.”
Gravel and metal chairs not great. The wicker screening was understandable but unfortunate. Privacy for the family could be achieved in a more creative way.
- Norma, September 2021Rod “Would have been Exceeded, if outside area and seating accommodation was better.”
Otherwise facilities, even a washing machine which we used, were excellent.
- Rod, July 2021Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay. We will pass on your comments to the owner with regards to the outdoor seating. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner
Thomas “The Stable is a wonderfully equipped cottage for two (and a dog).”
It is a recent and distinguished architectural conversion with great attention to comfort (sympathetic lighting, high quality of fittings, attractive and efficient woodburner, comfortable bed). For a dog owner, the immediate access to a lovely meadow with private paths down to the stream was a real treat. A five minute walk to a friendly local pub with excellent food, a well stocked local shop, and a genuine local farmers' market in the next village Saturday mornings. Cranborne Chase was not a part of Wiltshire we knew and it is lovely - picturesque villages, interesting sites to visit within a short drive and lovely walking. The newly opened Messums gallery in a fabulously converted medieval barn just outside Tisbury was an unexpected find. All in all this area provides great amenities with an unhurried style in a spot (thankfully!) largely overlooked by tourists. The Stable is the perfect base to explore this from.
- Thomas, June 2021Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at The Stable. It's wonderful to hear how much you and your 4 legged friend enjoyed the stay. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner
Eve “We had a fantastic week in this beautiful holiday cottage.”
The Stable had everything we needed to make the stay comfortable and relaxing. The setting was just so tranquil and the location area fantastic for exploring. The outside area had the morning and afternoon sun which was lovely. One thing that would have been nice and allowed us to enjoy the outdoor area in the sun would be some comfier chairs or sun loungers so that the sun spot can be enjoyed fully.
- Eve, June 2021We're so pleased to hear you had a great time at The Stable and were able to enjoy the sunshine all day long! Thank you for your feedback. Your thoughts on improvement are much appreciated! Property Owner
Julian “Fabulous property in a beautiful unspoilt part of the country.”
We would love to return

Barbara “Lovely well equipped accommodation with everything we needed.”
Personally I think the large living area could do with a bigger TV (we have poor eyesight) but apart from that perfect. The owner welcomed us with lovely tulips from the garden and the Stable was beautifully clean and smelled gorgeous. Very nice.
- Barbara, May 2021Thank you for leaving your comments on Stable Cottage the owner will be delighted! Property Owner
Olivia “We had the best time at The Stable.”
Emily (one of the owners) was so accommodating and on hand if we needed anything or had any questions. She even left toys out for our daughter. The Stable itself has been renovated so well - lovely little touches here and there - it’s a cosy, super clean and comfortable place to come home to each day during your stay. The property had everything we needed for cooking, cleaning etc. There was nothing we needed that wasn’t there. Already looking forward to our next visit.
- Olivia, December 2020Kathryn “The Stable was a lovely place to stay and I particularly loved the festive touches, including a small tree with lights, that had been added to make this pre-Christmas stay extra special.”
It may have been December but it was great to have the outdoor space in the courtyard to make the most of clear skies and a lack of light pollution to star gaze. The interior design was beautiful and the bed and sofa were very comfy. The kitchen was also well equipped. The local shop is well stocked and there’s a good pub within easy walking distance. If you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway with lots of great walks on your doorstep, then I would definitely recommend the Stable.
- Kathryn, December 2020Kate “Hosts (owners) who lived next door were excellent and very helpful when we requested information about a close beach and other information and items to enhance our stay.”
Excellent local pub.
- Kate, October 2020Arthur “Covid changes make a true feedback a little inaccurate”

- Samantha, November 2019Martyn “Hosts are very friendly & welcoming.”
Access to the field for our dog was a doggy dream come true.
- Martyn, August 2019Brian “Our stay was just brilliant the barn was simply superb with so many unexpected extras!”
Very private and beautifully decorated - both Emily and Marc where just fabulous hosts! We would highly recommend the Manor Barns!
- Brian, May 2019Graham “Owners very friendly, helpful and accommodating.”
Cottage very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Additional bonus field for dog walking and picnics by the river. Great area for walking and cycling.
- Graham, May 2019Alan “This was the best accommodation we have ever been in.”
Everything was good quality and very tasteful. A bonus is that the Stables are all on one floor, so no up and down spiral staircases as in most small cottages. This is a very spacious property with a high vaulted ceiling with skylights letting in lots of light. It is ideally situated for Salisbury and a few National trust properties. The local countryside is very beautiful and there are plenty of lovely walks nearby. The best we found is turn left at the gate and at the top of the road there is a footpath leading across some stunning views of the Chalke valley. Best nearby pub is the Horseshoe Inn about 10 mins drive into Ebbesbourne Wake. Friendly publican who has run it for for over forty years. They serve an amazing Sunday Roast and the Venison & mushroom pie is worth every penny. Booking essential for Sunday lunch.
- Alan, April 2019Katrina “The stables was absolutely lovely.”
It is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed in. It is in a very pretty little village with lovely walks straight from the Stables. We would highly recommend it.
- Katrina, February 2019Simon “Emily and Mark were friendly and helpful hosts.”
The Stable was very comfortable and extremely well equipped. It is a perfect place to take your dog as there is a fenced field just yards from the front door. We found three excellent restaurants within a twenty mile drive: The Foresters, Donhead St Andrew ( Michelin Bib Gourmand) The Beckford Arms, Fonthill Gifford. The Compasses, Lower Chicksgrove.
- Simon, January 2019Patricia “This was our first experience of holidaying in the U.”
K. and we certainly struck gold. Beautiful scenery, friendly landlord at the local pub, handy village shop/tea room in a cleverly converted chapel and lots of places to visit and explore. All this without the hassle of the misery of airport check in, excess baggage and late departures. The Stable was in word PERFECT. - we will be back
- Patricia, October 2018Miss Standard “It was our second time staying in The Stable and yet again we couldn’t find fault.”
The place is beautiful, has everything you would need and is in the most stunning area for dog walks. The host is a dream to communicate with and we will certainly be coming back again next year!
- Miss Standard, October 2018Mr Hannaford “The best break we have ever been on, just ideallic in every way.”
A great way to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary. The accommodation was perfect, lovely layout, clean, really nice and quiet and the surrounding area was just amazing!!!! We will be back maybe for longer on our 20th.
- Mr Hannaford, September 2018Compton “Beautiful property made for a wonderful stay.”

The property
Nestling in the unspoilt Chalke Valley, The Stable is a state-of-the-art barn conversion in the picturesque village of Broad Chalke, about seven miles from the cathedral city of Salisbury.
Painstakingly researched by its owners and tastefully and stylishly converted, The Stable is a brick and flint building very typical of this area.
Today, you'll find exceptionally appointed accommodation in a 'clean' contemporary style that make it a very popular choice.
Step inside the main Living Room and you'll be wowed by the wonderfully spacious feel with the ceilings at roof height and beautiful original elm timbers throughout.
The warmth of the red brick plus a very chic Scandinavian wood burning stove provide a warm and cosy living space, particularly on chilly evenings.
A comfy bed (plus a sofa bed for two additional guests) and a well-equipped, colourful kitchen complete the picture.
Highly recommended for a small family or a couple.
