    Mr & Mrs Shaw

“It was a lovely surprise to have a welcome basket of Tea, Bread, Biscuits, Butter and a beautiful Dorset Apple Cake on a domed cake stand and milk in the fridge - hand soap at every basin and sink.”

Well stocked kitchen. Lovely homely touches around in the decoration and ornaments. Very good information in the office, excellent food in the George two doors down, Children loved the swimming pool and Fossil hunting on the coast. A great time was had by all and a big Thank you to Sandy & Mike Tuohy for the pleasure of staying there for a week.

The property

In the heart of Chideock, two doors from a good food pub and across the road from the footpath to the beach, a large, beautiful, thatched, detached former farmhouse, complete with own private indoor heated swimming pool (28' x 14' x 4' deep, shower suite).

The house is light and spacious, retaining traditional Dorset character in beams, fireplaces and some low lintels, complemented by contemporary touches adding style and comfort.

At the back, steps up to walled garden with patio (picnic tables, barbecue), lawn, small games barn (table tennis) and sun terrace.

To the front, a small garden separates it from the A35 Charmouth to Bridport road.

From parking area, stepping stones across lawn and steps down to door into utility room (washer-drier, freezer, larder fridge) with space for coats/boots.

Two living rooms, one with open fire and the other with woodburner and TV/DVD.

Long, easy-to-work-in kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge, gas range-style double oven/7-ring cooker, breakfast table/stools for 4 in alcove).

Dining room with long table and doors to kitchen and living room.

Small office.

Downstairs bathroom (suite).

Two staircases (stairgates) from small hall and kitchen up to large landing/room with chess set and TV/DVD.

From this single room, very steep stairs up to another twin bedroom under the eaves (unsuitable for young children).

About the location

CHIDEOCK

Bridport 2 miles. Lyme Regis 7 miles. West Bay 4 miles.

The pretty village of Chideock (pronounced Chiddick) can be found straddling the main A35 road between Bridport and Honiton, in glorious West Dorset. Many of the quaint cottages lining the road are constructed of cob and the honey-coloured local sandstone. Lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the area has plenty of lovely walks, whilst just 1 mile away is Dorset's Jurassic Coast, famed for its fossils and ease of finding them, where a walk along the coastal path affords spectacular views across the sparkling waters of Lyme Bay towards Portland, Chisel beach and the Devon coast. A short drive east takes you to the ancient rope-making town of Bridport, and the harbour at West Bay, or venture west to visit the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis. An excellent holiday base from which to explore this scenic area.

Note: No stag parties
