“A charming cottage with ample room for 2 we thoroughly enjoyed our week away 08/03/2024.”

Peter made us feel very welcome, He explained all the relevant information to operate all gadgets! Peter was around if needed, but unobtrusive. On the downside, TV not big enough, I've got vision problems, so could not see. Lounge furniture, IE. Sofa and chairs not the most comfortable. I would still recommend Quiet Corner Cottage and would visit it again.

The property

On the outskirts of Henstridge, an attractive, single-storey, mid-18th century cottage at the end of a 200 yard drive with working apple orchards (juicing in autumn) and paddocks grazed by sheep and miniature Shetland ponies on either side.

It nestles at the end of a beautiful garden (shared with the owner), a real suntrap (table/chairs, barbecue) enclosed by stone walls.

The cottage adjoins the owner's converted threshing barn.

Home-produced eggs and prize-winning apple juice available.

Shop/cafe.

The cottage has beams, leaded windows and polished pine floors (rugs).

Gravelled drive and yard to 2 shallow steps up to front door.

Hall, off which living/dining/kitchen (washing machine, microwave, fridge, electric cooker) overlooking the garden, with high ceiling, woodburner and TV/DVD.

Two pretty, pink bedrooms (Velux windows) - a small single, and a double.

Bathroom (suite with corner bath with seat, shower over and hand-shower).

Transport from/to train station (by arrangement).

A peaceful, relaxing place with a short walk into the village, lovely National Trust properties to visit in the area and Thomas Hardy country and scenic hill forts to explore; plus a smart 9-hole Golf course.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

HENSTRIDGE

Sherborne 7 miles; Shaftesbury 10 miles.

The little village of Henstridge can be found right on the border of Somerset and Dorset, at the head of the lush Blackmore Vale, used as the backdrop to Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Surrounded by glorious countryside, Henstridge is well served by a shop, pubs, restaurants and a cafe and offers lovely walks accompanied by fine views. The village is ideally located for exploring Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire, as within a short drive lies the historic town of Sherborne, famous for its abbey and castles, and once home to Sir Walter Raleigh. Close by are a wealth of National Trust properties, such as the stunning Stourhead House and Gardens, while the nearby hilltop town of Shaftesbury, best known for the picturesque Gold Hill, is also well worth a visit. With the beautiful cathedral city of Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath and The Dorset Heritage Coast all easily accessible, this is a great base for relaxing and enjoying the delights of this superb area of the country.
