“This barn conversion has the wow factor and was perfect for us, with three double or twin bedrooms, all en-suite and an extra WC.”

The brochure description was a little unclear on bathrooms but having three was our top priority and a rarity unless you have more bedrooms than you need. There was also a dishwasher, washer-drier, loads of kitchen equipment, a play area and eggs and apples from the land. Sheep grazed in the field and there was lots to do in the surrounding area. Games provided entertained our 3 year old and there was also a play area which was an added bonus. The property could do with a bit of a clear out - ...

The property could do with a bit of a clear out - the drawer full of videos was enticing but there was no video player, but this is a minor issue and keeping such a large space clean and tidy must be a nightmare. The property is reasonably priced too. It's a shame the owner feels the need for so many rules, which are a little offputting, but I guess this must be because there have been problems with some holiday makers in the past. We found Annabel to be helpful and available at the end of the phone on the two ocassions we needed advice and she went out of her way to solve our problem. For a break in a great location in a historic building in the countryside at an affordable price, it must be hard to beat.

About the location

SHAFTESBURY

Salisbury 21 miles; Bath 30 miles.

One of Dorset’s prettiest and most historic towns, Shaftesbury is perched on a spur of rolling green hills, and the views in all directions are without comparison. Lush green meadows, woodland glades and outstanding architecture are all within a short walk. One of the best vantage points is from Gold Hill (Ridley Scott's famous Hovis advert was filmed here) with its quaint, cobbled and very steep street. Visit the ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey (a place of great pilgrimage from the 11th century) or navigate the intricate and ancient lanes. Bath, Salisbury and Sherborne are all under an hour away, or drive through the stunning countryside of Blackmoor Vale down to the coast at Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth. A beautiful area, that still carries the flavour of the very best of the English countryside.
