“This comfortable holiday cottage is in a lovely location in Somerset surrounded by numerous country walks, lovely pubs, pretty villages and National Trust properties.”

    - Miss Lindsey, May 2019

The property

About a mile from South Petherton, in the smaller village of East Lambrook (pub, manor house gardens with snowdrop and national geranium collections, plant nursery, tea room, gallery), a neat, detached cottage, beautifully converted from stables with big arched windows and beams.

Across the gravelled drive, the owners’ 17th cent.

thatched farmhouse and charmingly planted walled garden where you have a sitting-out area (table/chairs) and, a little further along the drive, use of an orchard for picnicking (picnic bench).

From drive (sunny bench, occasional horses passing), 2 steps up to arched doors to smart kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, small freezer, fridge, gas hob/electric oven) with flagstone floor and breakfast table/chairs.

Study/dining room with flagstone floor.

Oak-floored living room (TV/DVD) with lovely old Knole sofa.

Stairs up to a roomy double bedroom (5' bed, TV) furnished with fine period fabrics; bathroom (suite with roll-top bath and separate shower).

Ready meals available.

No children, except pre-crawling babies.

A stylish, comfortable base, well placed for numerous houses, gardens and churches of interest. South Petherton: biggish village (pubs, shops, excellent deli/café, medieval church, mountain bike track) in the heart of the 'Hamstone country'.

Within 4 miles are Montacute, Barrington Court, Tintinhull (beautiful houses/gardens), East Lambrook (enchanting cottage garden), Ham Hill (superb views, walks, Iron Age fort).

Easy access from A303/M5.

Nearest coast (Bridport, Lyme Regis), 20 miles.
