    • “Our 12th stay in 5 years. Wonderful tio be back in this quiet, tranquil and idyllic place. Thanks to Annabelle for the usual warm welcome.”

    Mr And Mrs D.,

    • “A restful week in beautiful peaceful surroundings.”

    Mr AND Mrs B,

    • “We've had a rest - the main aim of the stay. Very quiet and peaceful.”

    D And G,

    • “A wonderful cottage and still a centre for visiting the best points in the area. Thank you.”

    K And H,

    • “just perfect”

    Heatley,

    • “Ideally situated, near Shaftesbury and within easy reach of range of areas of interest, such as Jurassic Coast, Sherborne, Corfe, Win Green and Melbury Downs, Stonehenge, Avebury, Iron Age Hillforts and unspoilt countryside. A very cosy, warm cottage, superbly equipped, with washer dryer, fully equipped kitchen, TV etc - even various board games - the owners have put a lot of thought into ensuring a great stay. Spent Christmas at this wonderful cottage, and enjoyed a very relaxing, cosy break. Thoughtful touches from the owner (card and Christmas cake) rounded off my stay.”

    Guests' Review On TripAdvisor,

    • “Peaceful cottage down a quiet country lane. Lovely cottage with fantastic facilities - everything that you might need is provided and so much thought has been put into everything. The garden is a haven for wildlife and we spent most of the time bird watching! We would highly recommend this cottage and I'm sure we will stay again.”

    Guests' Review On TripAdvisor,

    • “We enjoyed our stay very much in this cosy and very comfortable cottage. The modern kitchen is very well-equipped with everything you need for preparing hot and cold meals. The dining area with the wonderful view of the patio and garden is very light and pleasant. It's a real home from home. Anabel is a very kind and helpful landlady. Thank you very much for two wonderful holiday weeks.”

Guest From Germany's Review On TripAdvisor 19 June 2016. 5 Of 5 Stars.,

    • “Searching a home base for Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, Abbotts Cottage was the best choice I could ever made. All sight seeings are easy to reach - the Jurassic Coast, Montacute House, Glastonbury, or Stonehenge. Located in a beautiful garden, the cottage offers all the comfort you could wish for. Cleverly, the rural part is complemented by the very modern kitchen and the comfortable bathroom . The decor is lovingly and lacks for nothing. The dining room offers a fantastic view to the garden, which can be enjoyed even on rainy days. A private parking space leaves nothing to be desired. I have very much enjoyed my holiday and felt very well at all times.”

    • “This was our second visit in seven months so it must be good ! So peaceful and relaxing but weather rather unseasonal this week. We look forward to visit number three.”

    Mr And Mrs Cooper,

    • “We booked this accommodation on the day we wanted our getaway to start. The booking experience was great - Thank you. The Cottage is wonderful and had everything we needed for our stay. It really was a home from home. It's comfy, cosy, peaceful and a lovely place to be. We didn't want to leave after our long weekend stay. We cooked lovely meals using food from the local farm shop and enjoyed sitting in the garden in the sunshine. Thank you to Anabel for making the cottage a great place to come relax and for telling us about the farm shop. We would recommend this cottage for a getaway - it has the best of both worlds - to be surrounded by lovely countryside but can also be on the beach in an hour. A great place to combine the two elements of country and coastal.”

    Guest's Review On TripAdvisor 08 June 2015. 5 Of 5 Stars.,

    • “A beautiful cottage hidden in rural North Dorset. It was so peaceful and beautiful we can't help but relax when we come here. The garden is beautiful, and to sit in the evening sun on the terrace is magical. It has the best of both worlds-- all mod cons with a luxurious feel but a timeless quality. Lots to see and do nearby: Stourhead Gardens are glorious and Shaftesbury and Sherborne both have lovely boutique shops and good coffee spots. At the end of the lane is Duncliffe, an ancient wooded hill preserved by the woodland trust. A walk through the bluebells in Spring is not to be missed. The Grosvenor Hotel in Shaftesbury is worth a mention for morning coffee and on previous trips we've had great pub meals at the Forester in Donhead St Andrew and the Stapleton Arms in Buckhorn Weston. Just had a couple of days here this time but as always it felt like we'd been completely restored.”

The Property

Abbotts Cottage is a delightful cottage, attached to the owner's property. Located in the Stour Provost conservation area the cottage has been recently refurbished and extended in a contemporary style, though it still manages to retain its period charm, of which it has plenty, with its traditional stone walls and narrow staircase.
The moment you walk through the garden gate you will be able to appreciate the owner's obvious love of gardening and this beautiful cottage garden (and its produce) is yours to enjoy. Perfect for a couple or family with very young children, it's a snug and cosy place to retreat to lying as it does on a quiet country lane, just four miles from Shaftesbury.
If you don't fancy venturing too far, you'll find the private patio and garden a wonderful place to enjoy a meal or a glass of something nice during the summer months.
However, please be warned......this is probably one of our most romantic cottages, with no less than five proposals of marriage here in the last few years!!

Regional Information

GILLINGHAM Shaftesbury 5 miles. A small bustling North Dorset market town in the heart of the Blackmore Vale, well served by a good selection of local shops, inns, restaurants, and a direct rail link from London to the West Country. The town was immortalised by John Constable's famous painting of The Old Town Bridge, which now hangs in the Tate Gallery. The Blackmore Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is part of the Stour Valley, vividly depicted by Thomas Hardy in Tess of The D'Urbervilles, as 'Vale of the little dairies', with lush green countryside and a 'patchwork quilt' of fields. The area abounds with pretty rural walks and offers numerous National Trust properties and historic houses within a short drive, such as Stourhead, Longleat and Wilton, whilst the wonderful Dorset Heritage Coast is also an easy drive.
