“What a delightful place to stay, with sympathetic conversion of the foundry buildings.”

Wonderful location giving easy access to the south of cornwall. The local pub, the Norway Inn, did a great sunday carvery. Geoff was a wonderful host. We read his book - what an amazing life story! Many thanks for a lovely holiday.

The property

In a wooded valley in Perranarworthal, The Brass Bolt Shop is a Grade II listed cottage in a smart private development of cottages and apartments recently converted from historic Perran Foundry, all set well back from the A39 within 5 acres of grounds in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the banks of the River Kennall.

The foundry dates from 1791 and was a hub of industry until 1879; it is now a fascinating World Heritage Site.

Inside, the cottage has been artfully renovated to sensitively merge contemporary comforts with the original spirit of the building.

Open-plan split-level living/dining room with slate floors and oak beams, vaulted ceiling, TV/DVD and iPod dock.

Step up to stylish fitted kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer, larder fridge, electric oven/gas hob).

Ground-floor double bedroom (limited clothes-hanging space); shower-room (suite, large cubicle).

Wood stairs up to charming mezzanine area with sofa, chair and door to small decked area (table/chairs) below a wooded slope, a lovely place for birdwatching, and another double bedroom (TV) with walk-in cupboard and en suite bathroom (suite, power shower over bath).

No children under 10, except pre-crawling babies, due to mezzanine.

An immaculate cottage steeped in history, a wonderful place to which to escape and convenient for visiting Truro and Falmouth. Perranarworthal: village (award-winning pub, farm shop) built around the 18th cent.

copper and iron ore trade.

A mid-Victorian guidebook described it as ‘romantically situated in a deep bottom or dell at the head of Restronguet Creek’.

Now by-passed by the Truro (5 miles) to Falmouth (4 miles) stretch of the A39.

About the location

PERRANARWORTHAL

Mylor Bridge 2.7 miles; Falmouth 5.8 miles; Truro 5.9 miles.

Perranarworthal is a small village in Cornwall set alongside the River Kennall. The village has a local inn, cricket ground and lovely church. Less than a mile away is Perranwell Station where you will find all the amenities you could need, with a Post Office, village store, and a local railway station from which you can travel to Truro and Falmouth. Mylor Bridge, just under 3 miles away, is a sought-after and picturesque village at the head of Mylor Creek that runs up from the Carrick Roads, the World’s third largest deep water harbour. Boats and sailing, wooded creeks, softly gliding water, riverside pubs and fabulous gardens epitomise the area. This friendly village has a superb selection of local shops (try the fresh fish!), a Post Office, a good pub and several restaurants within easy reach. The nearby harbour town of Falmouth with its exciting Maritime Museum and its castle, beaches and marina makes a great day out while the Cathedral city of Truro famous for its cobbled streets, theatre, museums and vibrant shopping centre should not be missed. Take the car, or a boat from Falmouth, for a trip up the stunningly beautiful Helford River and while there, call in at Glendurgan and Trebah Gardens for the horticultural treat of the year. The area is perfectly placed too for exploring the rugged cliffs, sandy coves and fishing villages of the Lizard Peninsula, also The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are both within an hour’s drive.
