Q. Our holiday let cleaner is taking two weeks off in May. She is self-employed and works for us for two days a week, all year round. Should we be paying her holiday pay?
A.The Helpful Holidays Team say:
A self-employed person enters into a contract with you to do specified work for an agreed sum. There is no legal requirement for you to pay for anything other than that agreed work.
However, if she is efficient and you are pleased with the work she does, then this may be an ideal opportunity to show your appreciation by paying her for at least one of the weeks, if not both. It is worth bearing in mind that finding another good, reliable cleaner can be time-consuming and inconvenient.
