Why book a cottage in Mousehole?

The picturesque fishing village of Mousehole is situated on the south coast of Cornwall, set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It used to be a bustling port and its main industry was the fishing of pilchards, dating back hundreds of years. Today the port is nowhere near as busy although there are still lots of boats bobbing about on the water. Take a boat trip from one of the companies who run excursions and see the village from a whole different viewpoint.

Mousehole has a very pleasant beach which sits within a sheltered part of the harbour. Just out from the harbour is St Clement’s Isle, a small rocky island, where a hermit is said to have lived and tended a guiding light. The village has everything you need for a holiday break, with a number of independent shops and excellent pubs and restaurants for dining out. It also has a number of art galleries, featuring works by local artists.

Mousehole is famous for its Christmas lights display, which has been running for over 50 years. Thousands of bulbs light up the village and harbour and people flock from all over the country to see the illuminations.

Places to visit near Mousehole

Follow The South West Coast Path south of Mousehole to Lamorna Cove, a beautiful spot where many artists over the years have come to stay. Follow the coast to visit the village of Porthcurno, home to the Minack Theatre, a magnificent open-air theatre set high up in the rocky cliffs.
