Why book a cottage in Padstow?

Padstow is a beautiful harbour town situated at the head of the River Camel in North Cornwall. Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you can enjoy stunning scenery and walks along the South West Coast Path.

Fishing has been a major part of the town’s history for hundreds of years and local fishermen still supply a lot of Padstow’s seafood restaurants today. The town is synonymous with celebrity chef Rick Stein, who opened his first restaurant in Padstow in 1975 and now runs no fewer than 6 establishments, including a bar, fishmongers and bistro. He has had such an impact on the area that Padstow has been nicknamed Padstein. It is not only Rick Stein’s restaurants you can enjoy however - Paul Ainsworth runs a Michelin starred restaurant and there are a host of other wonderful cafés, pubs and restaurants to dine in.

There are several fantastic beaches all within nearby walking distance of Padstow. Trevone Beach and St George’s Cove are ideal for families with young children and Constantine Bay and Harlyn Bay Beach are two of the best surfing spots in the UK. Walkers can explore the South West Coast Path and the Trevose Heritage Coast and cyclists can enjoy riding along the Camel Trail, an 18 mile long route along a disused railway line.

If you fancy taking a little break from the outdoors then Padstow has a number of brilliant attractions to visit. Take a trip to Prideaux Place, an Elizabethan country house with an intriguing history and home to a fine collection of art. The National Lobster Hatchery is a research and marine conservation charity that aims to improve the stocks of lobsters in the waters around Cornwall. Learn all about the work that they do and you can even adopt your own lobster.

Places to visit near Padstow

On the opposite bank of the River Camel is the coastal village of Rock, home to a beautiful sandy beach. For lovers of watersports activities it is a great location for sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. South of Padstow is Watergate Bay,a long bay and beach that faces the Atlantic Ocean. Continue farther along the coast to visit Newquay with its splendid beaches, shops and restaurants.
