“A beautiful, very well equipped cottage (great welcome pack thank you) with the comfiest beds ever!”

Views from the lounge were stunning, a real ‘birds eye view’. There were great walks straight from the door across the fields to the sea and beyond or to and from quaint little villages. Dunster castle and Blue Anchor beach were our personal highlights. Thank you for a fabulous holiday.

The property

Watchet 0.75 miles.

This cottage has been listed in the Times 50 Best Places to Stay in the UK and it is easy to see why with its beautiful views towards Exmoor and the Brendon and Quantock Hills.

The cosy cottage forms part of a Georgian former rectory, situated down a quiet private lane next to the 13th century church of St Decuman on the outskirts of Watchet, a pretty coastal village in West Somerset.

This is an ideal base for friends or families looking to explore the spectacular coastline in this area.

You enter the cottage through its own private front door into a large entrance hall, whilst also on the ground floor is an en-suite super king-size double bedroom which boasts French doors leading to the garden offering fabulous views over Exmoor and the Washford River Valley.

The majority of the accommodation is on the first floor, with a super king-size double bedroom and a further double bedroom with a standard double bed.

There is also a bathroom, fitted kitchen, and a conservatory sitting room with stunning views over the beautiful surrounding countryside, with Exmoor, The Quantocks and Brendon Hills in the distance.

There is secluded off road parking and an enclosed, private lawned garden with wonderful views of the Brendon Hills and Dunkery Beacon on Exmoor.

It is an ideal spot in which to relax and unwind on a summer's evening.

Watchet is a charming little coastal village to explore, with its active marina, old port, Jurassic coastline with fossil beaches, quaint houses, pubs, restaurants and shops.

Alternatively, explore the many walks on offer in beautiful countryside and along the interesting coastline, or just sit on the Esplanade with a locally-brewed cider or locally-made ice cream!

The West Somerset Steam Railway line passes through Watchet, heading through the Vale of Taunton to the coastal town of Minehead, and visitors are charmed by the relaxed pace of the trains passing through beautiful surroundings.

The trains can be seen passing through the Washford River valley below the cottage.

Also within a couple of miles are The Quantock Hills with their stunning moorland and Exmoor National Park, home to 267 square miles of rural bliss with ancient oak woodlands in deep valleys, sweeping moorland with stunning views and an incredible rugged coastline, including the highest sea cliffs in England.

With so much to see and do within easy reach, this is a lovely base for a holiday in Somerset.
