A lovely peaceful location and the property had all the facilities we needed for a relaxing week.

The cream tea on arrival was much appreciated. The location is excellent for exploring the area and we enjoyed NT houses and gardens and some lovely walks.

A very cosy and well equipped holiday home that we could happily live in all year round.

Slightly off the beaten track, with an interesting access lane, but the peace and quiet that come from that are sublime. The extensive garden is well fenced and secure enough that our 2 little dogs did not find any weakness. It was nice to meet our host, Hazel, and her Mum, and the eggs were delicious – shame the ducks were having a rest but that is something to look forward to next time.

This holiday venue is perfect for you if you enjoy a peaceful and quiet location.

A lot of thought has gone into making sure that visitors staying here enjoy their time and have everything they require to make this a perfect holiday. The facilities in the cottage include a super comfy bed, a large bathroom, a well equipped kitchen, TV and Wi-Fi, games, books and information relating to visits around Dartmoor. Staying in this area of Devon the country roads are narrow which is expected as is the lane to the cottage. My wife and I had a fabulous relaxing time away even when the weather wasn’t at its best. Would definitely recommend this holiday.

Although remote easy Access to the beautiful town of tavistock or city of Plymouth best of both words , lots of walks and the beauty of Dartmoor close by

Lots of lovely walks near by and places to visit. The Plymouth Aquarium is well worth a visit, about 30 minutes drive away. Cottage well laid out with a nice cream tea waiting on arrival.

Wow what's not to like about Hilly Field barn.

Immaculately clean, lovely cosy cottage with everything you need. Cometely enclosed garden for dogs. Lovely walks for dog owners. Dartmoor national park 7 mins drive from the cottage. Cream tea on arrival was a very thoughtful and nice touch. Very much appreciated after a long drive. Hazel is lovely. There when you need her. All in all we had a lovely week and I highly recommend Hilly Field Barn for those who want to get away and have peace and quiet for a few days.

This property is one of the best we have ever stayed in.

Set in beautiful countryside. Ideal location central for accessing Dartmoor and coast. Immaculately clean and provided everything you might need for your stay. We were welcomed with a lovely cream tea, fresh milk, tea and coffee. We only stayed for a short break, but will return for a longer stay.

An excellent base for exploring the local area, and close to Tavistock and Plymouth. Very peaceful location and setting, with lots of birds and wildlife on the doorstep. Loved meeting the owner's dogs, Bruno would have spent all his time with them if he'd had the chance. Would definitely visit again. Thank you so much.

This is such a comfortable place to stay, and remarkably well equipped.

Hazel and Mark are kind, attentive and generous hosts without ever intruding. The enclosed garden is perfect for any dog, especially an old lady like my Tia, who loved pottering around the bushes and rolling on the grass. We're going back!

It is kept very comfortable and is spotlessly clean. For my husband, who has mobility issues, it is so nice to be able to park by the door. The outlook is lovely and the property is in a very peaceful location.

We had a very pleasant stay pity the weather was against us but hey not the owners fault we were staying in February.

We managed to get out every day the property was first class very clean and tidy and good quality furniture and fixings well above what you would expect in a holiday let.we would have no qualms about recommending this property and owners and would definitely book again.

The house was perfect for the two of us and two dogs.

It is immaculately presented, has everything you need and is cosy and inviting. The local pub Drake Manor Inn does brilliant food, we visited a couple of times and is dog friendly too. The location of the house is down a country lane so is very quiet and peaceful. It is only a short drive away from Dartmoor and several villages to visit.

Hilly Field Barn is a perfect little gem set in the glorious Dartmoor National Park.

A converted barn, it has lovely thick walls that provide excellent insulation. The views are glorious and the garden a perfect retreat - my Golden Retriever loved it, and it was completely secure, so I could leave the door open for her all day. Hazel, our hostess, was so kind and went over and above to make our stay so comfortable and stress-free. Apart from all the extra help (I have mobility issues), I was greeted with a delicious clotted cream and jam tea, including tea, coffee and milk - and a vase of fresh flowers. The Barn is very well equipped with everything needed for a properly self-catering holiday. It even has a slow cooker. Although there are lovely places to eat out, as long as relatively local take-aways, I was able to cook everything without leaving the property. (Who would want to leave?) Hazel and her family are perfect hosts - her daughter even helped rescue my dog when she got stuck between the car and a trough of plants. They never interfere, but are always on call if you need them. I cannot recommend Hilly Field Barn too highly. We're coming back - two stays booked and more to come. Thank you, Hazel and family!

This is an outstanding holiday cottage, set in a really nice quiet location, but still very handy to local services and towns.

Both the cottage and gardens are clearly maintained to very high standards, and we would have no hesitation in booking this cottage again if we were to visit this area.

The owners were friendly & helpful.

The barn was peaceful & secluded & provided all that we needed for our stay. Clean comfortable & fully equipped. Rooms were spacious & bed comfortable. The only suggestion we would make relates to the shower. Although the shower water pressure was good it was a bit difficult to control the temperature through the mixer tap as it needed to be set each time you used it. Also the shower curtain impinged on the light fitting. As the property is only really suitable for a couple maybe the bath could removed a replaced with a shower cubicle. .

Property was great , generally of a good to high standard.

Just a couple of niggles that the owner may want to know about. The shower is difficult to control and could do with a thermostatic shower being fitted and the top oven grill didn’t heat up. Otherwise loved it and in a great area. I would book again and recommend it

Lovely comfortable accommodation.

Fab location, not too remote for local attractions on foot or by car (or local bus, if you are happy to walk a bit) but isolated enough to feel away from it all. Great surroundings and views with birdsong in the morning. Hosts on hand, helpful and accommodating but not intrusive. Completely charming. Beautiful place for my New Year stay.

We loved it here, it was very clean,quiet and peaceful stay.

Lots of wildlife about some cracking walks close by for us and the dog. just down the lane to the mill and river or up the lane to the orchard and out to the moors.. The cottage is based within the family farm the owners are very friendly and are a very helpful lovely family but are happy to give you your own space too. What a stunning part of the world with some beautiful places to visit nearby.. Thanks for making it possible for us to have a wonderful holiday.

A delightful cosy place to stay in a tucked away spot.

Very clean and well equipped. We had a lovely time there and found plenty to do within 4 miles. There are some fantastic views within easy walking distance. We even saw an osprey when out one afternoon.

We were welcomed by Hazel and Mark, both they and Shirley were very friendly without being intrusive.

The cottage was beautifully clean and spacious, the large kitchenette was well equipped. The bedroom was light and air with a comfortable bed and plenty of storage. The bathroom was clean and smelt very fresh. The fresh flowers and cream tea were very welcoming. We will be back

Everything was perfect. We would highly recommend this property, it is a little hidden jewel. Exceptionally clean and comfortable and perfectly stocked. We had a peaceful stay and only regretted not booking for longer. We will definitely be returning.

We stayed for a week and the property was as described.

It was difficult to find if you don't know the area and if you don't approach from capstone you could easily miss it. The property was clean and provided most things needed for your stay. A couple of things I would change. The mattress and a bigger bed would have been nice although we knew it was a double, the mattress was quite hard and you rolled together slightly. I think the bathroom could really do with a refit and it smelt quite musty too. As a base for a holiday it was fine

Basically everything that we required for this self catering cottage was provided in the way of utensils catering equipment cooker, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer, large modern TV, nothing was left out.

This made our holiday more enjoyable.Very pieceful location for a relaxing holiday. The owners and family were very friendly along with the evening bats.

Our reaction as we opened the door on arrival…Wow.

It was immaculate…the fixtures and fittings are of high quality and the cleanliness….the attention to detail and very well presented and maintained. Oh I nearly forgot….a welcome ..cream tea awaits us…a life saver after an 8 hour journey. We soon settled in and we’re relaxed in excellent surroundings. I see some comments regarding difficulty in following the directions. We approached from Plymouth via A386 to Tavistock (we live in Norfolk). We entered the post code of the property and it took us straight to the door…so this may help others. Mobile phone reception is non existent at the Barn but a short way along the road it soon improves..a minor distraction I feel. All I all an excellent stay …Hazel and Mark are most welcoming…but not intrusive.

The only thing they cannot deliver is a good mobile phone reception but a short walk up the lane corrects this.

Hilly Field Barn Cottage is excellent in every respect.

It is well situated for direct access to Dartmoor with its superb walking and sightseeing opportunities. The cottage is extremely comfortable, clean and well appointed. The cream tea on arrival was much appreciated.

We had a very relaxing week at hilly field barn a very warm welcome with cream teas the owners were very helpful, the place itself had everything we needed and very cosy, clean and we felt very relaxed after our wonderful week away highly recommended.

Comfortable and well-equipped. We had a week in December so spent a good amount of time inside reading as well as going on short trips - we had everything we needed. Owners are friendly and helpful as well. We'd definitely recommend.

We had a lovely stay at Hilly Field Barn.

Mark and Hazel were very friendly and helpful, always available if needed, but were not intrusive in any way at all. A cosy and very well equipped converted barn with a clotted cream tea, flowers and milk on arrival. It is very rural, which we loved, but be prepared for very narrow lanes ! The surrounding rural views and sound of the river running by were very restful. Would recommend clearer directions for the last mile. There is so much to do in the area and Tavistock is a really nice town to browse. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back. Thank you !

Great week, throughly enjoyed it.

This is a beautiful little cottage perched on the side of the valley over the river Tavy.

Stunning walks from the door and everything that you could possibly want in a cottage when you return. Really helpful, friendly owners who are on hand if you need them but not obtrusive in any way. We would definitely return.

The cottage was a very relaxing and quiet little hideaway.

The garden was safe for 2 dogs, and we were very well received by the hosts.

We stayed in this fabulous barn conversion in June 2021 and couldn’t have been more impressed!

A very welcome cream tea awaited our arrival and we were so pleased with how clean and well appointed the property was. The owners Hazel and Mark were very welcoming and helpful, yet gave us our own space to enjoy our holiday. Wonderful location to explore the Dartmoor area, shops within 10-minute drive and recommend a stroll to the village pub, The Drake Manor Inn for lunch. A walk to Double Waters from the front door (thank you Hazel’s mum!) is a must. Mobile phone signal not good (excellent!) WiFi is available. A beautiful spot to get away from it all. Oh and our cocker spaniel also had the time of his life! Highly recommended.

Lovely cottage with peace and quiet which was well equipped

Great little cottage in a nice part of Devon, close to Dartmoor and some worthwhile sights nearby like Buckland Abbey and The Garden House (booking may be needed with pandemic restrictions).

We had everything we needed for our stay in the cottage. Hazel and Mark were also a great help, including organising the cot and high chair for our little one.

The local people, as well as the owners, are very friendly.

The garden is well maintained and is not just grassed but contains flowering plants and shrubs, and a washing line located in a secluded area. Attractive hanging baskets either side of the front door, situated out of harm's way.

Excellent stay but the TV could be more modern (Smart TV) and larger.

The cottage was immaculately kept, and situated in a beautiful secluded location.

Perfect for a couple!

Our hosts Mark and Hazel were lovely and despite the weather we had a lovely time.

As always our "Bolt Hole" was very clean and comfortable and everything was catered for including the welcome pack. It was our 16th time at Hilly Field Barn and if we get any form of normality back we will be making it the 17th. PK

This holiday let is beyond anything one could imagine and the setting takes it again to another level.

However you need to find it first!Unfortunately the directions for the last part of the journey are inaccurate and take you to quite a different place, albeit in the same general area. As the lane on which the holiday let is unnamed and unmarked, and a satnav takes you to a different place again, it is impossible for any other than a local person to find it except by chance. Can I suggest that there are some revised directions both for those coming from the north (via Tavistock), and for those coming from the south (via Plymouth). We were coming from the south so the directions were no use at all. Hazel, the owner of the property was able to direct us when we phoned her but you can't depend on that with phone signals being erratic in the Devon countryside. Having said all that, I can wholeheartedly recommend this property

Would thoroughly recommend this cottage for a very comfortable peaceful out of the way location, the owners were very accommodating and could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable.

Local pub and restaurant only a mile walk into village. Very beautiful area.

We wanted to be away from crowds at this time.

This was perfect for that; out of the way on the edge of a village on the edge of Dartmoor, with places of interest on the south western part of the moor. Excellent location for us, with pub nearby.
