Wottonsbury

This little gem nestled into the side of Dartmouth’s beautiful countryside is a secret I really would prefer to keep to myself, but that would just be selfish I guess!

The view from this home from home literally takes your breath away. There is a zen to this place that relaxes and levels your soul. The cottage is both clean and comfortable. Everything you need is not just provided for, but carefully thought through and good quality. There is even a record player with a fantastic music collection to go with it. Five minutes drive up the road you are slap bang in the middle of Dartmoor’s country park with incredible rock formations, where wild pony’s and sheep roam free. Dig a little deeper and you come across woodland, waterfalls, picture post card villages and more. Ilsington village has its own local community shop that is welcoming and friendly, with way more than your basic supplies. The village pub “The Carpenters Arm” serves good pub grub and is dog friendly. Thank you Bridget for sharing your beautiful home with us.

We loved staying at Wottonsbury!

. It was so very comfortable, such a relaxing place to be with a magnificent view. We had everything we needed as the owner has thought of all the things that make a place feel like home but better! We loved the comfy beds and the kitchen is the best equipped we’ve come across in a self catering property. We were not short of all the essentials which makes a holiday so much easier. The music system & selection were very much appreciated too.

This was our third time staying here and once again it was a wonderful relaxing time.

We have already booked again for next year.

Great views, cosy, comfortable and well equipped. A home from home. The house has all mod cons but retains a rustic charm. Good facilities if you have a dog.

Wottonsbury was in a beautiful location with stunning views over the valley yet only 10 minutes walk from Ilsington.

The house was very clean and comfortable and had everything that we needed. It was conveniently situated to explore much of Dartmoor and was only 10 minutes drive from Haytor. We would definitely book the house again, there was nothing that we didn't like.

Everything we needed for a relaxing time was provided, including an amazing view to enjoy in the morning with a cup of coffee, pub in village a jem, food excellent . The narrow Dartmoor lanes are the only down side, driving them not a pleasure.. ALL else was perfect, including the weather!

This was an excellent holiday home in a fantastic rural location.

The house has everything you could possibly need and is incredibly well resourced. The house is a short walk (10 mins) from the village shop and pub and on the doorstep of Dartmoor. The garden is the real focal point and a great place to watch the sun rise. If you have a dog that likes to explore, the garden isn't completely secure. However, with a bit of barricading, this didn't cause a problem for our 11 month old labrador. If you want a house where you can both explore the area or simply relax in the garden, this is a brilliant option.

In general everything was fantastic, probably the best equipped place we have stayed, spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Every piece of kitchen and utility equipment we needed was provided. The place sits snugly into the hillside with fabulous views across as far as the sea, and we spent many relaxing hours on one of the several seating areas, including a couple of lovely evenings by the fire pit. We only had one small niggle, which was the bedside tables in the second bedroom which sit at a slope and couldn’t be trusted to hold a cup. Visitors should also note that while the place is close to the village, there are no footpaths (that we could find), so you’ll need to negotiate a walk down the very narrow lanes.

The house has amazing views and is really well equipped with everything you could need. It’s also walking distance to a friendly pub serving delicious food. The location is great for walking on Dartmoor and we were really lucky with the weather, so managed to get out every day. Would recommend Wootonsbury and hope to visit again!

Wottonsbury is a fantastic property where you can arrive unpack and relax.

..it sort of wraps you in a warm hug.The views are stunning ,do wake early to watch the sunrise and do look up at night-time to see the stars . Basically it's alittle gem!

An amazing location with views to match.

We loved our week at Wottonsbury in Ilsington and have already booked for next year !

Wottonsbury is in a beautiful location - the view from the bed in the morning is of rolling hills with sheep.

It is a lovely, comfortable, spacious cottage and it is the most well equipped we have ever stayed in! And not only did Bridget provide some lovely welcome gifts for the humans, Cleo (our cavapoo) had her own little pack. Bridget is a very helpful host with recommendations etc. The local pub (The Carpenters Arms) and the village shop are fabulous as is the spa hotel nearby which we went to for a delicious champagne afternoon tea. These are all within walking distance. I can highly recommend!

We had a wonderful stay, so much so that while we were there we booked again for next year.

The house was beautifully appointed with a lovely aspect over the landscape and comfortable outside loungers for the sunny days we we were lucky to enjoy.

What a great place to stay!

The house is really beautifull and very well equiped. The view is stunning, the garden is great, it's got everything you need. And Dartmoor is amazing! We enjoyed our stay very much.

A charming location with rural views.

Comfortable and well decorated cottage. Ten minute walk down the lane to the village with shop and pub and a five minute drive to Haytor Vale and great walks.

As someone else has already said, the photos really don't do Wottonsbury justice - it's so much better in real life!

We had the most wonderful, peaceful stay over Easter. We don't live very far away, but we needed a complete break, and at Wottonsbury we felt like we were a million miles away from all the stresses and strains of our daily lives. The house is not just clean and comfortable but has a fantastic warm feel - we felt at peace for the first time in a long time. There are fantastic walks on the doorstep which we - and our border collie - loved, but other than that we didn't stray far from the house because we loved being there so much!

As the reviews state, the view is just magical.Wottonsbury embraces you with such a warm welcome it was hard to leave. The property is so comfotable and stylish with a proper boot /utility room for our muddy boots and four legged friends. The garden is so pretty with camellias flowering and lots of comfortable seating to relax and enjoy the view. The location is excellent for walking on Dartmoor and the village of Ilsington is so friendly with the best community shop. We will certainly be returning. Thank you .

This cottage was a wonderful place to stay, it gets 10 for everything and was great value for money.

In our opinion The pictures on Sykes site do not do it full justice! It was so much better than we expected. The owner was also lovely, making personal contact via text to make sure we were ok and warning us of such things as when grass cutting were to be done. Additionally the view from the cottage was to die for and the property was well situated for site seeing, walking and amenities.

Bridget is an excellent host, friendly and very responsive to queries. It is a short walk down a single track road to the village, which has a small shop and pub. The views from the house are lovely and the garden has plenty of seating for enjoying the peace and quiet.

Wottonsbury is a wonderful cottage in a fantastic location, perfectly placed for exploring Dartmoor and the south coast of Devon.

It’s cosy and very well-equipped, and a lovely, peaceful place to come back to each evening. We appreciated the extra touches, like the binoculars for getting a closer look at wildlife in the garden, and the very welcome bottle of Prosecco! The photos don’t do it justice - it’s even better than it looks.

Superb position in the moors and with beautiful, far reaching views. Everything we needed was there. Loved the little village of Ilsington, just a short stroll away. Handy little community shop and pub too!

Second time here and loved it just as much as the first time!

It's a delightful place to stay, brilliantly located next to Dartmoor with walks straight from the front door. Bridget is so very helpful and provides all the little things (soap, washing up liquid etc) and let's face it - if the little things are right, you can't go wrong. The peace and quiet and the views cannot be beaten.

What a lovely holiday in an amazing property and garden.

Everything we needed and a great location to explore Dartmoor, Dartmouth and Paignton. We walked the dog to the local pub and had a great meal out. The house had lots of extras that I didn't expect. The milk, tea, coffee and bubbles were a great welcoming, thank you. The only small suggestion would be that it's time for the summer duvets to come out. However we still had a great family holiday, thanks again.

This is a wonderful property, very comfortable, well equipped and with outstanding views.

Just sitting in the kitchen diner with the wood burner on in the evenings, a glass of wine at hand was so restful, we feel very relaxed , just what a holiday should do. Fantastic.

The property is all about the views!

As previous visitors have stated the beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed the property and surrounding countryside. The missing items for us were a large straightforward teapot and adequate lighting in the lounge

The house is in an ideal location, great facilities, we had everything we needed and more. The beds were probably one of the most comfortable beds we’ve had at a holiday home. Thank you also for getting back to me so quickly when I contacted you. The only reason I have give an 8 for recommendation is because the garden is not suitable for toddlers with the different levels and stairs. It didn’t affect us much as we did not use it but for friends of mine with young children I would not recommend to them however I would to others.

Amazing location, we can’t wait to book again for next year.

The property exceeded expectations. It was comfortable and well equipped and some and some really nice touches both inside and out and stunning views. Village setting was lovely. Only recommendation might have been some lighter bedding for the summer as it was very warm and a bbq to fully enjoy the outside space.

Recently renovated property with every facility you could wish for.

Property is easy to reach if you don't mind single track roads.

It is, however difficult to spot as not very well signed. We went past twice before spotting the (small) sign. Kitchen is well kitted out although we were analogue people in a digital kitchen, Had difficulty with the induction hob, had minor learning problems with the microwave (which is sited in a difficult corner) and never mastered the Nespresso machine. Adequate cutlery and plates but could have done with a few more cups. Beds were fine and comfortable, duvets were designed for a siberian winter, not a british summer. Overall we were pleased with the accommodation and had no major complaints (only the little niggles noted).

Super week in a super place!

We had a great week here at Wottonsbury, the place is wonderful - fantastic views and crisp sheets, what more could you want in life? We took several walks from Wottonsbury on to Dartmoor, which was just ace for us and our four legged pal Boo. Every little detail had been considered for our comfort. We will be back. Thank you.

Fantastic property, decorated and fitted to a high standard.

Situated in a lovely, quiet, remote area with great views from the garden over fields containing horses and sheep. Lots of birdlife too. Enjoyed walking or running from the property onto Dartmoor and Hay Tor, just a mile or two away.

Lovely comfortable holiday cottage - it had everything we needed, and all very high spec.

Super comfy beds, easy parking, great location (easily walking distance to the Carpenters Arms & Village Shop) - but the views were the stand-out part of the holiday, they were incredible! Highly recommended 5-star cottage - we'll be back !!
