Mugwell Barn

We spent a lovely relaxing week at Mugwell Barn.

The location is excellent for exploring the area, close to Dartmoor as well as the coast, several National Trust properties and interesting towns. The owners made us feel welcome and the property has everything you need.

Fabulous stay at mugwell barn which had everything you needed.

Beautiful surroundings,so peaceful and good walks from the door. The owners let us use there field for walking our dog which was fantastic. Thanks to David and Lyn for being great hosts and making us feel welcomed.A good base for visiting the area .

Mugwell barn is beautiful, peaceful surroundings and Lynn and David are brilliant hosts.

Easy to get to lots of places. We had a very restful stay just what we needed. Lots of wildlife in the garden and surrounding fields including the piglets!

A lovely stay in a very peaceful environment.

Loved watching the early morning wildlife with my coffee before starting our day! The fireplace was everything we needed at the end of a super cold but sunny walk long to gorgeous coastlines. Lyn and David were wonderful caring hosts!

We have booked Mugwell Barn previously so knew how wonderful it would be.

It had been newly decorated and was fresh and well kept. It was everything we needed for a relaxing week prior to the Christmas plans. Our Welcome hamper included fresh bread, butter, milk, biscuits, wine and Saffron buns. Plenty to get us through the first day. The barn is warm and comfortable, we didn’t need to light the log burner but used it one evening purely for the cosy atmosphere. The large bed is comfortable and heavy curtains to keep out any chills and morning light. It is dog friendly and no charge which is always a bonus. The owners, Lyn and David are always on hand for any dining recommendations or suggestions for village walks. The only downside was the booking service from Sykes which was not what we expected after previously booking through Helpful Holidays, which I believe was taken over by Sykes. That’s such a shame as Helpful Holidays were exactly that. Sykes had made a minor error in the booking cost and chased me aggressively for 1p!!

Lovely accommodation with helpful, friendly hosts.

Wonderfully cosy and well-furnished cottage with everything you could need to feel at home right away. Lyn and David were great hosts, and the cottage itself was in a great location with seemingly endless countryside, historic houses, and amenities within an hour's reach. We're already looking forward to coming back again in the not too distant future! Thank you :)

Spot on for our requirements, visiting relatives who live close by.

Almost everything you could possibly need was readily available -this stay was only for 3 nights but we loved it especially the walk we did with our dog to the village of Latchley (where our relatives live) along the river Tamar. Would definitely book again - highly recommended.

A lovely holiday barn in a very rural setting.

I was lucky with the weather the first week so apart from some walks straight from the door I spent it relaxing on the patio enjoying the views and peaceful environment. The lanes surrounding it are very narrow but also very quiet so you soon get used to them.The barn has everything in it that you could possibly need. Lyn and David are lovely hosts. There were some lovely treats for me on arrival. Lyn showed me around on and pointed out how everything works. Can’t fault my stay and am missing the views and peace already. Will hopefully be back.

This cottage is a little Gem, fantastic location, very clean and spacious, it’s absolutely LOVLEY

We had the most magical week in Mugwell Barn.

It is thoughtfully designed making your stay extremely comfortable, a home from home, We loved the Super King size bed, the underfloor heating, the sliding foldable double doors onto the patio and field area to the back of the property. The views are breath-taking. It is clean. The hosts are delightful and welcoming but left you to do your thing. We had a welcome pack of milk, bread and butter. It is so blissfully quiet. We left feeling so refreshed. We had our dog with us too and she had the best time, please be mindful you are in the country so take a long line to keep your dog safe but still able to enjoy the field to the rear. Truly a great find.

Lovely week's stay at Mugwell Barn.

Everything you need for a self catering stay. Biggest plus was the view. Lovely friendly neighbours, not just the owners but the few pigs as well!

We really loved our stay.

The only thing that we did not like was no secure place for our dogs to play and wonder we had to watch them all the time.

We appreciated the welcome pack and found the cottage spotless clean and very comfortable. The cottage was well equipped and well situated for getting about. Our little doggies loved visiting the piggies every morning.

Mugwell Barn was one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in - if not the best.

It is in a lovely area with fabulous views, and we were so comfortable. Lyn and David ,our hosts were really helpful and easy to talk to. Our 6 month old labrador puppy came with us and there was plenty of room for her crate and a paddock area right outside the barn where I could walk her. We had a lovely welcome pack too. We haven't finished exploring the area so we would like to stay there again.

We couldn't fault the accommodation it was very clean and everything you could need was there.

Unfortunately we couldn't say the same for the weather. We had a very relaxing peaceful break.

Excellent property, good wecome pack, fantastic views, so quiet and peaceful an amazing building from what was a ruin .

As soon as we arrived, Mugwell Barn felt like a home from home with everything we could possibly need for our holiday and with lots of storage to put all our things away.

The welcome pack was very much appreciated and very generous. There are lots of leaflets with places to visit. We were very glad of the fan at night, as we had the most amazing weather during our stay and the barn got quite warm while we were out and about exploring. Lyn and David are the perfect hosts … helpful, friendly, but allowing you your privacy. Mugwell is a great base to explore the area, both Cornwall and Devon. We visited Tavistock, Edgcumbe, Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor as well as the coast (Polperro, Fowey, Bude) and did a few forest walks too. Some of the roads are very narrow, which added to the fun of exploring. We walked to the local pub a couple of times, the food is good, hearty food. The only thing we’d change would be a secure boundary to allow our dogs to roam about safely while we were in the barn, but there is a field close by for the dogs to be let off lead, so it wasn’t really an issue for us and we kept the dogs on long lines when we had the doors open so that they couldn’t roam too far (and so that we could relax without wondering what mischief they were up to!). We would stay at Mugwell Barn again and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Thank you for making us so welcome.

Great place to stay, everything you need.

Lovely welcome pack on arrival. Don't think the photos do it justice!

Lovely cottage, however because of them having to use a septic tank the smell in the bathroom is horribly rancid no window can be opened.

Also, there is underfloor heating which was lovely but it tended to get very hot and humid with no window that can be opened just a bifold door to the garden. Nice view tho

Absolutely fantastic stay, so quiet and tranquil.

We were met by Lyn who was very helpful and welcoming. The barn had the most amazing view and the fixtures and fittings were of a high standard. Would definitely go back again. The owner left us some welcome goodies which was a nice gesture and most appreciated

Lyn and David the owners gave us a warm welcome and explained any changes to our last visit. The barn is very comfy and is well equipped. The outside area was great place to spend those warm evenings. We will definitely be going back next year

Just lovely although close to owners once in you face other way with the view.

You don’t feel over looked or hear anyone. Everything was very very clean. Interesting collections of old stoneware/pottery/glass displayed on high ledge - looked good. Sofa comfortable open kitchen/living space well planned. Large grass area not dog secure but only barn uses so was fine. As I was conscious about walking mud into barn I felt bit more gravel outside in car parking area would be good. One of the best I’ve stayed in. Thank you Lindsay

What a great base for a stay in the Tamar Valley.

The barn was warm, clean and comfortable with views across the fields. I had a warm welcome and Lyn & David were on hand if needed. The goodies supplied were a nice touch. I really enjoyed exploring the area, with walks from the door. It was such a peaceful setting, just perfect for my stay!

Quite simply perfect.

Set in a beautiful quiet location, cozy, comfortable accomodation, very well maintained and spotlessly clean. Well equipped kitchen, the owners have thought of everything! Super outside private patio and garden, lovely walks from the cottage. wished we had booked a longer stay.

Really well equipped & had everything we could need during our stay, having so much room outdoors for the dog was also brilliant.

Enjoyed our stay and would love to come back one day.

Kitchen was really well stocked in terms of bowls, cutlery, teapots etc compared to other small places we have stayed in which sometimes provide just two of everything.

The quality of crockery was really high which was a plus. Bathroom really great. Views beautiful. We personally found the mattress hard and not overly comfortable but that’s our personal preference, although when the owners come to replace the bed I’d recommend getting at least a medium mattress as a hard mattress isn’t for everyone. Also a larger comfier corner sofa could be accommodated if the interior was reorganised eg we thought the corner chair was a bit of a waste of space. Overall we had a good stay. Thank you!

Hi spoke to owners before as asked and were told a welcome hamper would be in the cottage as ‘there is nothing worse than a long drive and then not being able to have a cuppa’.

We had a 6 hour drive purposely not stopping as provisions would be there but there was nothing there.I text owner and rang he said he would ring later but didn’t bother! We then had to go out again to find a shop as it was hot Tesco fridges we’re all down so then had to try to find somewhere else! We arrived back and we’re greeted by dogs barking in our face before the owner came up to us. She asked if we wanted showing around but I said no as we had already been here an hour but had to go to the shops as nothing was left for us. She said oh is it not in there I said no and I’ve contacted your husband but no real reply. She then said oh we had a very busy day and forgot you were coming!! No apology she just went and found us a packet of buns! I would of expected a ‘ I’m so sorry’ and the next day for our hamper to be given to us with a sorry. Nothing we did not see or speak to the owners once! As we were leaving the owner came out of his cottage and said ‘oh we haven’t been introduced ‘ I was gobsmacked at the lack of welcome or apology and have never had that type of experience ever. It spoilt the beginning of our holiday as in the book people commented on how lovely a welcome they got along with the provisions which were wonderful. Well we got neither nor an apology of any kind. Shocking way to greet people or not greet them. This was our first holiday since covid. What a shame.I will do my own review on Tripadvisor anyway.

We had an amazing 4 nights 5 days at mugwell barn.

The cottage is in a fantastic location with superb views and lovely walks on your doorstep. Dave and Lyn are fantastic hosts leaving a lovely welcome pack (especially the wine!!) and are very friendly and informative

Loved every minute of our stay.

Lyn and David were very friendly, knowledgeable and approachable, great owners. Mugwell Barn is in a beautiful setting and away from the day to day stresses.

The quality and reliability of this cottage is top draw.

We had a great time with no problems at all which helped make our stay very special. The owners were more than accomodating of all our requirements and left us to enjoy our holiday, relaxing and wandering around kit hill and the local area. The Cornish piskies are watching over this place. Brilliant.

The owners were really helpful- especially as I needed to charge my car overnight.

Lots of goodies on arrival, which were very welcome. The property was bliss to stay in, and the dog enjoyed running around at the back. I wish I could have stayed longer!

.. Comfortable, Clean and in a great location. Owners are great hosts who are friendly really take the time to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable.

The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to make sure people staying have everything they need so there is nothing to criticise there.

They are happy to answer any queries on the facilities or places to go. For people planning to stay there I would say that if you think the owners description of how to find the cottage is over-detailed then it is not. Be prepared to navigate several miles of single track roads and to lose contact with your Sat-Nav a few times :-). The instructions are vital. For techies like me, bring enough USB plugs as there are only two USB points in the cottage. Maybe that is fine for most people but half my suitcase is always filled with USB powered devices and chargers :-) There is free WiFi but mobile signals might be an issue for you so make sure you have WiFi calling enabled.

The property has everything and more you could possibly need for a week in the countryside. Wonderfully clean and very well equipped. The location was perfect to explore both the north and south coasts of Cornwall. Owners Lyn & David are the perfect hosts - on hand with knowledge and advice if needed but more than happy to leave you to your own devices if that’s what you crave. Would 100% recommend and would book again.

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday in the beautiful Tamar valley.

We hit the jackpot by choosing Mugwell barn. It was everything the website said it would be. The location of the property was fantastic offering extensive views across the countryside in a wonderfully peaceful setting. The barn is fully equipped for self catering so we lacked nothing. We were able to easily drive to many coastal towns as well as enjoying the countryside around the property. Our hosts Lyn and David were very knowledgeable about the area and were happy to point us in the right direction. I couldn’t finish without saying a big thank you to them for providing us with a very tasty welcome pack. The stay in this delightful barn made the very long drive from Yorkshire worth every mile.

What a gorgeous getaway location for some time to relax and take in the nature around.

The setting is extremely peaceful and the barn is really comfortable. The dog seemed to be in paradise with a lovely big garden to roam about in and the field where she could let of some steam off lead. Note that the surrounding roads are narrow but quiet and with plenty of passing points.

The owners were the perfect balance of welcoming and private! They added lots of extra little touches, even some Prosecco for my partners birthday - just so thoughtful! Everything was just as we expected.

And Lynne and Dave. Were very thoughtful in the yummy scones and juices. Plus a few extras bought for us which was very helpful to us as I'm disabled. We had a great experience staying at the barn and would do it again. All you needed was there and the views the tranquillity. The only thing we thought it could do with is being better sign posted. As we got lost.

Single track roads need to be mentioned

Stayed at Mugwell Barn over Christmas with my partner and our dog.

A really, good location 35ish minutes to the North and South Cornwall coasts. We all had a lovely time, the cottage has some Christmas decorations up and we had some nice goodies (the scones were amazing) from Lyn and David. There are loads of places that are doggy friendly in the area and were recommended by David a walk about half a mile away from the cottage, along a river (the dog's favourite). Every evening we enjoyed in front of the log burner, and had a quiet Christmas in Cornwall. What more could you want?

Great tranquil location with some excellent woodland walks.

The property itself is amazing and has anything you could possibly need. Lynn and Dave the owners are extremely nice, friendly and very welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

On our arrival, Indi the springer spaniel and I received a warm Cornish welcome matched only by a scrumptious home baked 2 scone jam/cream/butter combo a short while after settling in to the esthetically pleasing, cosy barn conversion.

From the patio doors the property has a wonderful outlook across fields, (the first of which was 'ours') a small valley and more fields towards Kitt Hill on the horizon. As a dog owner, having access to a stock-proof fenced field a mere chickens stride away from the property was a fantastic resource which was gratefully utilised on a daily basis. With the hosts property and Mugwell Cottage standing in close proximity to the Barn, and being on-hand for any whim or eventuality, you would never have known this as our whole week was one of peace and tranquility.

We had a fabulous visit to Mugwell Barn in Luckett, Cornwall.

The barn was a perfect little haven of peace and tranquillity. The hosts were extremely welcoming and the barn is maintained to an excellent standard. It was fully kitted out with everything we could possibly have needed during our stay. Our dog especially loved the 'dog field' where he was able to run around, safely secured away from any roads or farm animals! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and just wish we could have stayed for longer!

A wonderful location to be based at for trips to the north or south coast.

The property has everything you will need and the hosts were very friendly and accommodating. I would score 11 out of 10 and will definitely be returning. For all of you who are about to stay at Mugwell Barn ..... enjoy.

The Barn is a wonderful conversion, super clean an cosy.

The location and views are stunning, with easy access to all areas of Cornwall and Devon. The owners and their pets are helpful and accommodating and supplied us with some goodies for our stay. Highly recommended.

Furnishings and fittings of high standard and quality Peaceful, tranquil surroundings...but easy access to coastline and cities if preferred..so we had a very varied time at Mugwell Barn for our week...even walked across country to the local pub Good communication with the owners Wine scones milk butter orange juice on arrival a bonus The general environment a real treat

The location was fantastic for visits to North and South coasts.

Plenty of local pubs and Callington has a decent Tescos store 10 minutes away. The barn is in an idyllic location with far reaching views of Dartmoor and across the valley. The interior is very tastefully appointed and to a high standard. We were greeted by Lyn the owner and had complimentary wine, bread, milk and scones and cream. They have also accumulated plenty of tourist information for guests to examine. For dog owners please be aware the barn does not have a secure garden as such so you will have to supervise at all times. There is a nice field immediately next to the patio and it was ideal for our 8 month puppy.
