The Gallery

This is a beautifully quiet cottage, well positioned in the South Hams.

It is ideally placed for visiting the surrounding attractions. The property was very clean and well presented, although we would have appreciated a wall mirror in the second bedroom and somewhere to put items in the shower. Thank you for the milk, cake and cream, which were enjoyed. Visiting in May meant we were able to see all the flowers in the Devon banks. Beautiful.

The Gallery does not live up to its billing.

When we arrived there was no hot water or central heating. The owner, who was very willing to help, had to come twice with a long ladder and climb into the roof to clear an air block which, he said, occurred from time to time, and which should obviously be checked routinely before all new occupants arrive. On top of this the Gallery is inadequately furnished - it is not somewhere you look forward to relaxing in at the end of the day:- NEITHER BATHROOM HAS A TOILET ROLL HOLDER (the roll sits on the floor), or a glass for water or brushing teeth. Bedrooms - there is nowhere to put suitcases or clothes other than in a cupboard, which in the l/h room is also too small. There was no chair in the l/h bedroom until we complained and were given one (for two people). The r/h bedroom had just one chair. Neither has anywhere to place suitcases. In the living area there are no surfaces to put anything on apart from one coffee table, and the only only seating is two two-seat sofas. It needs a couple of rugs and more than one reading light. The dining chairs have no cushions, and very uncomfortable backs. Neither shower has a grab rail, making them dangerous for older people The Gallery is also poorly maintained:- The l/h bedroom door didn’t close on the latch and banged in the night One l/h bathroom bulb was burnt out, and toilet flush had to be temporarily adjusted by the owner (another visit) to stop it running continuously. The r/h bathroom shower lever was too stiff to move with one hand In the kitchen: the oven door gasket needs replacing; two overhead crockery cupboard doors fell down when opened to use, requiring to be held up by one hand to get at the crockery with the other; in the right hand main cupboard one door has a broken hinge, the other doesn’t fit shut The torch in the living area doesn’t work (doesn’t recharge)

The Gallery Lovely upside down property located on a working farm, although you wouldn’t know it.

The accommodation is light, airy and well maintained. The beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need. We were greeted with a home made cake, milk and clotted cream, and a supply of logs for the log burner. We would highly recommend a stay here. The only thing that slightly spoiled our stay was the terrestrial tv didn’t work, a problem with the aerial cable we were told. As we had our AppleTV box with us this wouldn’t have been a problem except the internet speed on average was only 1.5Mbps so it was very glitchy. I’m sure this will be fixed very quickly.

Good location for exploring south Devon

Enjoyable and comfortable stay in attractive country surroundings which suited us (but requires a car if worried about being off the beaten track).

Lovely hospitable hosts - sorry to miss them on departure so we could have thanked them personally.

Quiet but central to all the best spots in the South Hams. Great accommodation well equipped and cosy. Nice outdoor space to relax. Very friendly hosts.

A well-furnished and equipped property in a tranquil location.

We loved the peaceful setting with the only sounds being the birdsong from the hundreds of birds in the courtyard and surrounding gardens. Very well placed for exploring the beautiful South Devon coast and plenty of great places to eat a short drive away.

We thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation and we found the Cottage very Comfortable well worth a return visit

We had a pleasant few days at The Gallery.

The property is comfortable, well provisioned and in a beautiful location. The owners were friendly and welcoming. We would definitely return for for further holidays in the area and highly recommend.

The cottage was exactly as on the website, beautifully designed as well as functional.

I had brought a few things I thought I'd need but they stayed packed as everything was there - even a fresh coffee spoon measure! I would have liked a shelf in the shower room instead of having to put shampoo etc on the floor but it was a minor point. The location is convenient for setting off to different parts of the coast and, like my own home, at night it is very dark and quiet, so perfect for a good nights sleep.

The property more than came up to expectations.

It was a totally unique setting and everything we could wish for. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. A total escape, peaceful, quiet and restful. The owners Jo and Nick were an absolutely delightful couple.

We loved out cottage.

The interior was so well designed by the owner’s architect father. The owners Jo and Nick are delightful and gave us any help we needed. The property is very pretty with very nice gardens and good walks through the farm and surrounds. We will definitely come back again.

The accommodation was in a very remote position and although this was hinted at in the description it was not made clear until the key collection details were received and had this information been made clearer in the initial description it may have influenced our choice.

It was very hard to find but having said that after a quick call to the owners they were extremely helpful in getting us to our destination.

This cottage is like a lovely hideaway surrounded by beautiful flowers, trailing plants, and trees.

The view from the light and airy sitting room takes in the surrounding fields and marvellous Devon countryside. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners - nothing was too much trouble - and treated to homemade scones and jam with clotted cream and a bottle of extra special milk from a local farmer. Everything was just perfect - even the adorable pygmy goat had two kids during our stay and it was so sweet to see them jumping about in the field. We had a marvellous holiday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this wonderful place.

The owners, who live on site, were extremely helpful and quite delightful.

Lovely space in a converted barn within a beautiful courtyard.

Very comfortable accommodation but there were a few niggles with lights not working properly that a bit more attention to detail would sort out - but nothing major. Lovely area well positioned for the coast and excellent walking.

This is the third time we have stayed at Averton Gifford and have enjoyed ourselves on every occasion.

The last time we stayed at the Gallery where we had another enjoyable experience. greeted by fresh scones, clotted cream a bowl of freshly laid eggs and flowers on the table. The surrounding area is very beautiful with sheep, chickens, goats and a peacock. The approach is by a long winding road. Situated near several costal results. I would highly recommend any of these properties.

This was our second time at the Gallery and even though the weather wasn't as perfect as last year we had just as good a time.

The barn is perfectly set up, spotlessly clean and the upside down design works really well with the view from the lounge out on to the garden and the sheep fields. There's plenty of space in the communal grounds to kick a ball around and it was lovely to wander the fields inspecting the lambs! Jo and Nick have created such a lovely place for visitors to really relax and feel welcome. Aveton Gifford is a friendly little village and a great base for exploring the South Hams. There are so many good coastal and country walks to be done, an abundance of good pubs in the surrounding area and Kingsbridge is nearby with great facilities and restaurants, so you really are spoiled for choice if you don't want to venture too far. We still feel like we've not seen everything, so we will no doubt be back again!
